Salary: $3,179.00 MonthlyLocation : JP 2 - 7723 Guilbeau Rd Suite 105 San Antonio, TXJob Type: Full-time RegularJob Number: 2024-01419Department: Justice of the Peace Precinct 2Opening Date: 09/19/2024Closing Date: 10/14/2024 11:59 PM CentralSummary Under general supervision, is responsible for providing County Courts-at-Law case files and documents; oversees Assistant Court Clerks; maintains dockets; prepares correspondence; prepares official documents; coordinates court appearances; administers oaths; performs data entry; answers telephones; maintains files; makes certified copies; and performs related duties as required. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains hearing, jury and non-jury trial daily dockets
  • Prepares court correspondence
  • Prepares and issues legal documents which may include court orders, judgments, warrants, subpoenas, requests for Abstracts of Judgment and Writs of Execution and Possession, court ordered personal service on delinquent estates or requests for psychiatric examinations
  • Coordinates the appearance of parties for cases scheduled on the daily docket
  • Administers oaths and takes proofs for parties involved in individual cases
  • Performs data entry and computer research of individual case, court date and dismissal or appeal information
  • Answers questions in person and by telephone regarding court procedures
  • Maintains case files
  • Makes certified copies of legal documents
  • Prepares court case reports and statistics
  • May calculate and accept fees and court costs for court orders
  • Oversees the daily work of Assistant Court Clerks
  • Calculates and collects fines and court costs and fees in person and by mail
  • Balances cash drawer and prepares daily bank deposits
  • Answers correspondence and telephone inquiries regarding court costs and fees
  • Updates misdemeanor cases regarding time payments not paid in full within the allotted time
  • Contacts defendants with outstanding fines and sets cases for show-cause hearings
  • Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and three (3) years judicial system experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good knowledge of civil, criminal or probate courtroom procedures; good knowledge of basic legal terminology; good knowledge of alphabetic and numeric file maintenance
  • Skill in understanding and applying State Judicial Code
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to accurately enter data; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to operate personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, attorneys and the general public
  • Must secure and maintain Criminal Justice Information ServiceCertification and Bexar County Information System Certification (security clearances) within 6 months of employment;
  • Must secure and maintain 18 hours of Court Personnel Education within one year of employment
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
