The Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) is located near Mead and Ithaca, NE, within 40 minutes of both the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas. The site consists of approximately 9,663 acres with about half of the land base being row crops, both irrigated and non-irrigated, and half pasture. Over 6,000 domestic farm animals used for research and teaching reside onsite as well.
As a Crop Protection Systems Operator, you will:
* Be responsible for development of the year-round pesticide application plan for the row crop and forage systems.
* Establish prescribed mixing rates, application techniques, and safety protocols to ensure proper and safe application of agricultural chemicals.
* Monitor and adjust application rates and equipment settings based on field conditions, product specifications, and agronomist recommendations.
* Keep detailed records of applications, including product types, quantities, field conditions, and any observed crop responses or adverse effects.
* Perform routine inspections and maintenance on application equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation; report any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
* Provide expertise and assistance to the farm and haying operations with duties such as fertilizer applications, planting, harvest, irrigation, and haying operations.
* Assist with hauling of commodities as needed, operate heavy ag and snow removal equipment.
Irregular hours and work in inclement weather may be required. EPA Noncommercial pesticide applicator license must be obtained within 3 months of employment. Valid driver's license and ability to meet University driving criteria is required. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Ag Research Technician III.
