Position Type: Student Support Services/Special Education Homebound and Hospital Teacher Date Posted: 8/12/2024Location: Butler School District 53Date Available: 08/26/2024Special Education Homebound and Hospital Teacher DEPARTMENT: Student Services REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services JOB SUMMARY The Homebound Teacher will provide academic support to students who need to miss school temporarily due to various circumstances. Homebound tutors work with the school, student, and the student's family to coordinate and provide academic support on a weekly basis. Performance Responsibilities:
  • Gather appropriate materials and assignments through designated building contacts. The homebound teacher may design a temporary curriculum for students who are unable to continue normal classroom assignments due to health-related limitations.
  • Implements IEP with parent to address the time period that student will be in homebound program. A copy is to be presented to the Director of Student Services or Designee to be included in the student's file.
  • Make contact with the parents of student to determine most appropriate time and location for program.
  • Present material in a meaningful manner using correcting, reteaching, or other appropriate methods.
  • Proctor examinations using directions provided by the teacher.
  • Work with teacher to develop techniques that will enhance program delivered at home.
  • Return finished work and tests to teacher for correction and recording of grades.
  • Participate in progress update meetings with parents, guidance staff, and teachers.
  • Complete homebound district documentation in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by the director of student services or designated case manager.
  • Essential Functions of the Job
  • Determines individual needs of homebound students, plans and designs lesson plans, and helps implement the IEP and/or 504 Plan that has been designed by the teacher to meet the needs through goals, objectives, and timelines.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction to facilitate student learning.
  • Models appropriate and innovative use of technology.
  • Establishes and maintains a standard of student behaviors to achieve a functional learning atmosphere within the limits of the resources provided.
  • Evaluate the educational program and student progress according to the IEP and/or the 504 Plan. Participates in 504 or IEP meetings. Makes sure that the IEP and/or 504 plan is followed.
  • Works in concert with the school of attendance teacher(s) to keep the student moving forward in his/her classes.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of students. Exhibits positive human relations skills. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters.
  • Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.
  • Maintains and submits records, reports, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner as required.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Engages in personal and professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with local school administration, teachers, and paraprofessionals.
  • Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Mobility is required to traverse to homes of students and various assigned schools of those students.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s) or designee.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, ABILITIES, COMPETENCIES, AND SKILLS: In order to successfully execute the functions of a teacher, one must be able to successfully demonstrate skills, abilities, and competencies in order to perform highly complex, multiple tasks and fulfill the requirements of the position. There is a need to periodically upgrade such capabilities to meet changing job conditions.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Illinois Special Education Teaching Certificate
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • Have reliable transportation and appropriate insurance.
