Job Description :
Position Summary The Packaging - Project Manager is responsible for guaranteeing the safety and quality of our consumer facing packaging in market by developing, implementing, and monitoring safety/quality parameters (Gold Standards) as outlined in package specifications, as well as identifying and supporting Packaging supply management across the Subway restaurant system. The candidate will ensure the accuracy of specifications by partnering with supplier base and IPC through ongoing discussions overseeing all aspects of manufacturing commercialization. The position supports the Marketing department with new package development, cost savings initiatives, Sustainability & Regulatory Compliance and serves as a subject matter expert for cross-functional teams. Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide end to end Packaging development expertise for Innovation, Sustainability and cost savings programs
  • Collaborate with Ops, Culinary, Marketing to drive test programs and ensure Packaging meets Fit, Form & Function requirements.
  • Lead ETQ support for all US Packaging Programs
  • Provide support for US POP materials & execution
  • Evaluate the quality of existing products and manage vendor performance with IPC.
  • Provide guidelines to manufacturers for matching prototypes and product improvements.
  • Serve as global subject matter expert for packaging; establish and lead a packaging global committee to foster collaboration and share best practices
  • Be a driving force, inspiration, and coordinator for continuous process improvements; help identify opportunities to increase efficiency and eliminate non-value add activities
  • Interface with key high level executives, sometimes at the ELT level, including the Chief Marketing Officer and some interaction with the (S)VPs of North America, International and Latin America. More commonly will interface with Directors, but in all cases to drive productivity.
  • Develops relationships with senior executives from key suppliers and engages them in strategic supplier management for value creation and innovation
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with packaging organizations, build external networks, and implement best practices within the company supply chain.
  • Develop and manage actionable timelines outlining key responsibilities and critical deadlines.
  • Provide direction to suppliers in implementing industry best practices and new ideas into products and processes to meet the changing needs of the business and to remain innovative and up to date with packaging requirements.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing (IPC) and suppliers to identify and/or develop product and process quality improvements or value-added alternatives that meet company objectives as well as regulatory compliance.
  • Lead supplier packaging vendor Approval process for all suppliers.
  • Build strong relationships with all business partners and suppliers
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Vendor management skills
  • Experience in Global Strategic Sourcing
  • Management of vendor relationships and strong expertise in outsourcing
  • Knowledge of the procure to pay process
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal contracts; procurement or sourcing experience
  • Indirect Procurement experience
  • Proven track record of working with multiple executive level stakeholders to deliver results
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including total cost analysis
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Strong negotiation and sourcing
  • Ability to interface with Subway Leadership Team (ELT) members
  • Capable to Strong consulting skills, specifically in managing change, project management and presenting
  • Familiarity with vendor management and service level agreements
The successful candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Packaging Science or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in packaging science, food safety and/or technical related fields.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
