JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation Coordinator works with a team of Specialists to develop, coordinate, and implement recreational, educational, and vocational activities for residents of all ages including but not limited to cultural adaptation, English language acquisition, skills building and development, learning and educational assistance, creative expression, health and nutrition, physical education, and other productive engagements. The Coordinator develops partnerships with community-based organizations to bring activities to the site and coordinate off-site activities.

Pay: $21.64 an hour- approx. $45,000 annually.

FLSA: Non-exempt. Eligible for overtime.

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday (off Sunday & Monday). 1pm-9pm shift all days except Saturday 12pm-8pm.

Location: Gowanus/Park Slope Brooklyn, NY

JOB-RELATED DUTIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

These duties are essential and specific to the successful implementation of this position.

+ Ensure courses, workshops and activities are culturally sensitive, age appropriate, and address the needs and interests of residents. Activities include but are not limited to:

+ Cultural adaptation

+ English language acquisition at various skill levels

+ Learning and educational support

+ Skills and talent development

+ Vocational, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities

+ Creative expressions and recreational entertainment

+ Health and nutrition, physical health, and healthy living

+ Neighborhood tours and field trips

+ Provide oversight of teens/children on-site

+ Accessing community resources, programs, and services

+ Independent living

+ Develop partnerships with community-based organizations, advocacy groups, and subject matter experts to facilitate workshops.

+ Follow up with Case Managers and Social Workers on identified behavioral, coping, health, and mental health problems, issues, and concerns.

+ Document client-specific engagement and activities in designated electronic record.

+ Develop monthly calendars for DHS submission.

+ Participate in program meetings, trainings, and resident case conferences.

+ Attend community events to build community partnerships.

Qualifications

What do I need to apply?

Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in human services and 2+ years experience in a relevant field required. A high school diploma or GED and 3+ years experience in the human service field can be used in lieu of the education requirement.

+ Communication: Professional verbal and written communication skills.

+ Computer skills: Professional competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet. Experience with CARES and AWARDS prioritized.

+ Math Skills: Ability to develop and manage program budgets.

+ Physical Performance: Ability to make unit visits (walk distances, climb stairs, etc.)

+ Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls

+ Confidentiality:Ability to comply with HIPAA and NASW confidentiality rules.

+ Other Skills and Experience:

+ Experience working with homeless and/or formerly homeless individuals and families.

+ Extensive knowledge of NYC recreational, learning, and vocational opportunities.

+ Superior verbal and written communication skills

+ Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and work in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to build and lead a team.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office

+ Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish prioritized.
