Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU . CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on the Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and other CSU departments to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

One Natural Resources Technician (hereafter Technician) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ) at Tyndall Air Force Base ( AFB ), Florida. The Technician will assist in operating Tyndall AFBs Hunter Check Station and with conducting biological surveys in support of Tyndalls natural resources program.

The Technician will assist hunters with entry onto the base by processing and selling permits and maintaining accurate visitor records through iSportsman. Technicians will operate the game check station where they will check hunters in/out of tree stands, collect biological data from harvested white-tailed deer (e.g., sex, antler measurements, weight, jawbone removal), and perform tree stand maintenance. They will provide general customer service duties, such as answering customer questions, providing directions, and entering and maintaining hunting data. This work will provide valuable experience in natural resource and game management operations at a military installation.

Technicians must be prepared to work long hours during certain periods of the hunting season. Hunting is permitted on weekends and holidays from October to April and includes dove, archery, muzzle loading gun, and general gun seasons. The general schedule is as follows.

+ The Technician will work an irregular schedule to include both daytime and evening shifts on weekends, weekdays, and holidays (during hunting season).

+ Check Station hours are typically 4:30AM-7:00PM Friday through Sunday.

+ The Technician must be available to work on Federal holidays (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year s Day).

This is a Temporary Administrative Professional full-time (40 hours/week) position with the potential to become permanent, dependent on funding availability. On-the-job training and all equipment necessary to perform job duties will be provided. Military affiliation is not required to apply for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

+ High school diploma/ GED .

+ Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel).

+ Interest in a career in natural resources and military lands management.

+ Demonstrates punctuality and available to work as early as 4:30 am, and on weekends (Friday-Sunday) and federal holidays (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year s Day).

+ Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a Department of Defense Installation Access Pass.

+ Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license by the employment start date.

+ The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

+ Experience conducting wildlife surveys.

+ Experience collecting and entering biological data from harvested game animals.
