Position Availability: End Date: December 15, 2024 (or 60 days after start date) Position Title: Temporary Senior Secretary Requisition Number: 020####### Location: New York City Position Type: Administrative Position Status: Full-Time Department: NSSR/Political Science Responsibilities: The New School for Social Research ( NSSR ), one of five academic divisions of The New School, seeks an administrative temp employee to support the faculty and students of three of our academic departments. The NSSR, which enrolls over 700 students and offers the M.A. and Ph.D. in the social sciences, philosophy and history, is known internationally for its commitment to progressive ideas and its rigorous, interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning. This position reports to the Chairs of the Politics department, while also providing support to the chairs and faculty of the Liberal Studies and Creative Publishing and Creative Journalism ( CPCJ ) departments. In cooperation with the pool of senior secretaries at the NSSR, and working closely with the Office of the Dean, the Senior Secretary has specific responsibilities that include the following: Provide general secretarial support to the departments including, but not limited to, scheduling appointments and office hours for faculty members, distributing department mail, maintaining office copy machine and office supplies, coordinating mailing to students and other outside parties, organize meetings and prepare agendas, coordinating room assignment for faculty offices, department seminars, orals and dissertation defenses; Assist with and coordinate faculty searches, included organizing applicants materials, arranging candidate interviews and job talks, and other related duties; Handle travel arrangements and payments for all visitors (including guest lecturers, visiting scholars, etc.); Prepare all check disbursements, purchase requisitions, and other requests for department activity; Assist the Department Chairs and departmental faculty with the preparation of online reimbursement requests and forms; Liaison with the Office of the Dean, Records, the Registrar, and other University offices regarding department business; Supervise work-study and other student assistants; Administer all aspects of Admission work for the Politics, Liberal Studies and CPCJ Departments; Administer all aspects of event planning, and, the accreditation process for degree-granting programs in the department; Perform special projects as assigned by the Chair Work Mode: Hybrid/Split Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. Salary Range: $26.60/hr End Date: 60 days after start date) Minimum Qualifications: B.A. degree preferred Two or more years experience in an office setting.
