Job DescriptionTHE SALVATION ARMYNORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS DIVISIONMIDWAY CITADEL CORPS COMMUNITY CENTER POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Youth Program Coordinator LOCATION: Midway Citadel Corps Community Center REPORTS TO: Corps Officers FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt STATUS TYPE: RFT OUTCOMES Work under the direction of the Corps Officer to ensure that the Out of School Program is in keeping with the overall plans, goals, and directions of the Corps. Monitor mentoring program implementation, record, and store statistics, provide updates in City Span system ECornerstone system on curricula understanding and improvement of youth academic performance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Will use the Youth Developmental 40 Developmental Assets to track outcomes and develop program goals, and activities planned by the Corps Officer.
  • Plan and execute the out-of-school program for the entire weekly sessions. This will include, but not be limited to planning the curricula implementation, and working with the mentors in planning: group sessions, workshops, trainings, field trips, and other therapeutic activities for youth.
  • Take supply inventory coordinate program needs with Corps Officer(s).
  • Understand and uphold that lessons are following overall emphasis on increasing knowledge within youth.
  • Coordinate activities at the school and Corps Community Center.
  • Carry out the orientation of mentors and speakers, and support staff prior to the first day of out-of-school program, conduct daily staff meetings and debriefing. Also, coordinate training days with staff.
  • Monitor all staff and communicate any disciplinary issues, if necessary, with the Corps Officers.
  • Take part in screening, training, planning, and implementing ongoing group events, facilitating youth life skill workshops, and participating in program evaluation efforts.
  • Assists in maintaining a minimum of 60 youth program participants.
  • Along with Corps Officers will perform outreach and communications to increase youth referrals.
  • Provide ongoing education workshops to mentors at least once per quarter throughout the year.
  • Input necessary information in the SIMS database for youth program participants as well as other databases consistent with grant funding.
  • Read, sign, and abide by the Safe-From-Harm Policy.
  • Attend training and receive certification in Safe-From-Harm, COVID Safety, Emergency Responder (AED/First Aid/CPR), Field trip supervisor, and Medication Dispensing Supervisor.
  • Help with maintaining the sanitation and cleanliness of the program space. This will require communicating with janitor for cleaning, set-up, and breakdown of the program space.
  • Understand and uphold that the out-of-school program has an emphasis on youth education.
  • Understand and uphold that Life-Skills workshops are intended to inspire connectedness within familial units.
  • Understand and uphold that character building workshops are intended to add discipline and life skills within youth.
  • Update the DFSS City Span database twice per week, communicating recording statistics, group curriculum, and work with other organizations/agencies to maintain communication and compliance.
  • Perform facilitate Trauma Informed groups, and maintain coordinate with outside counselor, maintaining communication for services provided.
  • Ensure that all youth have submitted signed parental release participation forms and maintain confidentiality while keeping proper records in accordance with the policies of The Salvation Army.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Will be responsible for monitoring the staff hired for the out-of-school program, and assist in training staff, under the direct supervision of the Corps Officers. This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army. In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals. A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted. EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
    • Must have completed at least 2 years of college or at least 2 years of experience in programming management, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
    • Must be 21 years of age.
    • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
    • Requires valid driver's license and pass the MVR check.

    POSITION LIMITATIONS
    • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved by the Corps Officers.
    • This individual will keep the Corps Officer informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
    • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.
    • Perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time; use hands and fingers; communicate; move; occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel, or crouch; frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands, as required in using standard office equipment and PC.
    • The work environment for this position includes indoor and outdoor environments with a low to high noise level.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.
