With an overarching mission to eliminate ageism and ensure the dignity and quality of life of approximately 1.8 million older New Yorkers, the NYC Department for the Aging is deeply committed to helping older adults age in their homes and creating a community-care approach that reflects a model age-inclusive city.

NYC Agings Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR), under the Administration and Operations Division, is charged with the primary coordination efforts for notice and no-notice emergencies impacting the agency, agency staff, and our extensive provider network which serves older adults. This includes planning, preparing, and responding to all types of emergencies, as well as maintaining the agencys Fire and Life Safety and AED/CPR programs. OEPR regularly coordinates with NYC Emergency Management, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and other partner organizations to establish citywide response protocols and provide agency support for emergency response to local and citywide emergency incidents.

NYC Aging seeks a dynamic and motivated individual with demonstrated knowledge and experience in the field of emergency preparedness as an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator in the Office of Emergency Preparedness & Response Unit. The Office of Emergency Preparedness & Response (OEPR) manages preparedness plans for the Department for the Aging and its community partners and in the event of an emergency oversees their activation and post activation procedures.

Under general direction, The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator will perform tasks and assignments as assigned by the Senior Director of (OEPR) and the Director of Strategic Operations and Administration. The duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

- Support with drafting and providing analysis of the OEPR Continuity of Operations Plan, Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan, and Provider Emergency Plan templates.

- Assist Senior Director and Director with the preparation of the City of New York Cooling Centers seasonal Heat Emergency activation program.

- Assist with the growth of technology applications of VIV (Salesforce), Sustainable Planner, Everbridge, and Microsoft Suite used by OEPR to support strategic emergency preparedness and response operations.

- Collaborate with NYC Aging Bureaus & Departments to develop efficient protocols for emergency preparedness and response measures to heat activation and winter storm emergencies

- Prepare informational materials for mailing to all New York City service provider network that are contractually connected to NYC Aging.

- Represent NYC Aging during inter-agency meetings and events.

- Assist with updating the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program database to ensure the provider network contacts are up to date.

- Assist with coordination of certification training and maintenance of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device.

- Special projects may be required, along with evening assignments, weekends, and holidays during emergency events.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
