Description

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

The Patient Services Representative is responsible for courteously and professionally responding to patients in person or directing calls and inquiries; and for collecting all monies for services rendered. PSR has overall responsible for patient registration and insurance certification. One full-time (1.0 FTE) position available.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1) Greets all incoming patients

2) Create new patient accounts by completing full registration as per practice and organizational guidelines

3) Place patient on Nurses Access panel when there are no appointment slots available.

4) Registers patients accurately; collects patient demographics using Electronic Medical Records/Electronic Practice Management software.

5) Verify Patients demographic and phone numbers at each visit.

6) Verifies patient insurance eligibility, confirm and update eligibility; communicate critical insurance information as needed.

7) Assesses and accurately enroll patient for sliding fee scale discount program

8) Select Preferred Pharmacy and Laboratory Services for patients in HER

9) Logs all monies received to patients accounts; Generates receipts for clients.

10) Answers incoming calls and transfers to appropriate departments

11) Responsible with scheduling appointments.

12) Distribute tokens to patients and document as needed

13) Maintain daily log of cash and tokens distribution.

14) Pre-certify all new patients via phone; verify family size and annual income.

15) Call patients to confirm scheduled appointments.

16) Pre-verify insurance before the appointment date.

17) Make calls to newly assigned HMO Plan members to schedule new appointment monthly

18) Place an alert when we obtain return mail

19) Other duties as assigned

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:High School Diploma. Knowledge and experience using computer and EHR software. Prior Experience healthcare or basic understanding of health-related terminology and services.

Language Skills:Fluent in languages of the population we serve preferable. Demonstrate effective written and verbal skills. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Mathematical Skills:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for extended periods at a desk while operating a keyboard and answering calls. Must have ability to perform repetitive motion (e.g. keyboarding). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and long periods of viewing a computer screen.

Evaluation Methodologies:Staff will be evaluated through observation and reports on productivity of performance standards for quality improvement purposes. Staff will also be evaluated on their adherence to the Service Excellence standards, as well as effectiveness as a team member.
