The Clinical Toxicology Extraction Technologist Trainee receives onthejob training for the preanalytical wet chemistry prep of patient samples in the Clinical Toxicology Laboratory. This laboratory is fastpaced and performs a variety of high complexity testing including therapeutic drug testing, designer panel drug testing, comprehensive oral fluid drug testing, occupational drug testing, autopsy testing, unknown analysis testing, pharmaceutical testing, and drug confirmation testing on blood, serum, urine, and meconium sample types. This testing uses a variety of wet chemistry extraction techniques including liquid-liquid, solid phase, and dilute-n-shoot methods. These extractions utilize both tubes and 96-well plates via manual or semi-automated pipetting systems which are then analyzed on a variety of instrument and software processing platforms. Shift : 3rd Schedule : Saturday - Tuesday, 9pm-7:30am (4 x 10hr shifts) Differential : This position qualifies for a 15% shift differential Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications: Bachelors degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements Previous clinical laboratory testing experience is not required ASCP or AMT certification is preferred Ability to work independently and within a team environment Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs Key Responsibilities: The following duties reflect key responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned. Retrieve specimens for testing; evaluate specimens and test orders; determine priority of work and batches to maintain acceptable turnaroundtime Recognize unacceptable and unusual specimen(s) and handle appropriately Adhere to assay Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) while performing extractions on patient samples, calibration samples, quality control samples, and proficiency samples Use Good Documentation Practices (GDP) in all documentation Maintain, calibrate and clean instrumentation / work area; perform scheduled/routine maintenance and critical function checks; recognize significant changes in instrument function; troubleshoot as indicated Maintain accurate records and documentation for all laboratory tests and equipment including, but not limited to, maintenance logs, temperature logs, disinfection logs and assay SOPs Evaluate, use and/or prepare laboratory reagents, standards and quality controls according to established department standard operating procedures and established timeframes Deliver accurate high quality patient care while maintaining efficiency Participate in the instruction and training of others on the Clinical Toxicology wet chemistry extraction bench area as business needs warrant; demonstrate and/or explain the testing process to others or observe the testing process as performed by others Wet Chemistry Extraction Specific Responsibilities: Focus on training of and mastering of skillsets for functions associated with the Clinical Toxicology wet chemistry bench area including, but not limited to, Pre-Set Up, Manual Tube and Plate Extractions (liquid-liquid, solid phase, dilute-n-shoot), Semi-Automatic Extractions (Tecan, Hamilton, Tomtec), and Specialty Extractions (Oral Fluid, Pharmaceutical (syringe) Quants, Autopsies, and Unknowns) If you're looking for a career that offers opportunities for growth, continual development, professional challenge and the chance to make a real difference, apply today!
