This position will have experience in construction, road maintenance, airfield maintenance, facilities maintenance and/or other heavy manual labor areas. This role is anticipated to last up to 6 months. ABOUT KING COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOEING FIELD) KCIA is one of the busiest primary non-hub general aviation airports in the nation. Located just four miles south of downtown Seattle, it averages 200,000 aircraft operations each year. In 2001, it was named by the National Air Transportation Association as one of the 100 Most Needed Airports in the United States. KCIA ranks among the most successful public investments in state history. The airport's annual economic impact is $3.5 billion - supporting more than 16,000 jobs and providing $1.8 billion in labor income in the county. The airport's 150 tenant businesses also directly support more than 5,000 jobs in the local economy. KCIA promotes the health of the aviation industry by establishing pipelines for employment and for employee development. As a general aviation airport, KCIA serves small, commercial passenger airlines, cargo carriers, including UPS, private aircraft owners, helicopters, corporate jets, and military and other aircraft. It is also the final delivery center for the Boeing Company's 737 aircraft and serves as the company's military flight center along with other Boeing operations. The Museum of Flight is located on the airport property with a wide variety of aircraft and exhibits showcasing aviation history. KCIA frequently is host to celebrities and dignitaries, including the President of the United States, who prefer Boeing Field because of its proximity to downtown Seattle and convenient connections to other business districts in the region. Due to its proximity to Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, and other sports venues, many teams prefer to use KCIA when playing in Seattle. To learn more about King County International Airport please visit kingcounty.gov/airport. Job DutiesSCOPE OF JOB DUTIES:
  • Operate motor vehicles and radios on runways and taxiways under the control of the Airport's Air Traffic Control Tower to perform airfield maintenance tasks and escort contractor personnel.
  • Assist journey level trade workers who perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, heavy-duty mechanical work and airfield striping.
  • Assist in performing minor maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repairs to facility; repairing and inspecting fences, sidewalks, roofs, gutters, and asphalt and concrete roads; clean and replace various signage types. Operate lift trucks and a variety of power equipment.
  • Mow and rake airport grounds; trim shrubs and trees; perform heavy housekeeping and other grounds keeping as directed.
  • Remove snow and ice. Maintain and repair runways and taxiways.
  • Inspect and clean catch basins, storm vaults and pump houses.
  • Provide FOD (foreign object debris) and litter control services.
  • Lift, carry, move, or handle up to 50-pound bags, tools, equipment, and other objects to complete any of the above referenced functions.
  • Respond courteously to airport tenants and the public.
  • Respond to and support Airport emergencies, events and incidents including inclement weather events.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsWE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO:
  • Have experience in construction, road maintenance, airfield maintenance, or other heavy manual labor areas OR completion of a recognized vocational trades program.
  • Have knowledge in the use and care of hand tools and equipment used in airport maintenance, construction, road maintenance, or other heavy manual labor areas.
  • Have knowledge of safety procedures for construction, airfield maintenance, or other heavy manual labor areas (fall protection, confined space, hazardous materials).
  • Knowledge of heavy manual labor activities. Can follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Can perform duties involving physical labor including bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting, pushing, and twisting and can lift to 50 pounds.
  • Are able to perform work outdoors and in inclement weather.
  • Can adhere to federal, state, and county mandated safety regulations and policies.
  • Are team players and understand the value of working as a team.
  • Can exercise proper situational awareness in demanding conditions (i.e., working near landing, departing, and taxiing aircraft; precautions during day/ night operations, etc.).
  • Have a demonstrated work history of predictable and reliable attendance. Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Are able to speak and understand Aviation English; standardized international language of civil aviation.
  • Have basic knowledge of computers including navigation, email correspondence, time-tracking and other applications.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful applicants must have or obtain a valid driver's license from the state of Washington upon start date.
  • An offer of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a reference check, pre-employment physical examination and a FAA background check.
  • Must obtain full airfield driver's certifications within the first month after start of employment.
  • Must be able to distinguish the colors red, green and amber; red, blue, yellow and white.
Supplemental InformationWork Schedule: 4/10hr shift on a day, swing, or weekend crew schedule. Weekend includes Saturday or Sunday. Current openings are for Wednesday - Saturday shift and Sunday - Wednesday shift. Schedules are subject to change. This full time position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Overtime work may be required. Alternate shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, as well as extended work hours may be necessary to meet Airport operational and project demand.
