Job Details: Summary of Job Purpose
  • The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for providing a safe and comfortable diagnostic / interventional experience for the patient and the patient's support systems in transformational partnership with the Nurse Manager and the interdisciplinary team. As an accountable professional, the Registered Nurse exercises autonomy (the right to undertake a specified action), authority (the power to implement action), and control (the ability to enforce the action in an ongoing and consistent manner) in order to ensure these excellent patient outcomes. Professional accountability is expressed in five areas: practice, quality assurance, competence, research, and resource management.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Applies the nursing process to perform initial and ongoing assessment of patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and patient care to assist physician during endoscopies and other specialized processes. Recognizes importance of informed consent.
  • Follow policies and standards to assess, monitor and recover patients undergoing conscious sedation.
  • Evaluates patients learning needs related to procedures and provides education throughout patient stay and upon discharge.
  • Accurately documents in the patient record utilizing appropriate documentation in electronic medical record.
  • Assures patient callback process is followed.
  • Participates in data collection for CQI process.
  • Use proper tools to accurately charge patients.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, currently licensed in the State of New York. Membership in 'The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates' suggested
  • Experience:
    • Basic knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Demonstrates sound clinical skills; knowledge of Hospital structure, objectives and standards of practice, positive communication skills. Minimum of 3 years of med/surg experience desirable.
  • Training/License:
    • Knowledge of appropriate technology and practice standards for area of responsibility.
    • New York State Registered Nurse license required.
  • Other:
    • BLS & ACLS required. Certification in Gastroenterological nursing is desirable.
