Vice Provost of Academic Affairs
: Job Details :

Under the direction of the Provost, the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs (VPAA) oversees educational policy and academic programs, including program review and improvement.

Oversees Educational Policy and Academic Programs:

Designs and executes a comprehensive periodic review of academic programs

Ensures quality of academic programs

Manages course offerings each semester

Develops and implements new curriculum and programs

Oversees and directs the ongoing assessment of student learning across the institution

Ensures Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes is timely and continuous improvement decisions are data-driven

Ensures academic policies and procedures are in place and updated on a periodic cycle

Addresses and resolves student complaints

Ensures successful programmatic accrediting annual reports, self-studies, site visits, etc.

Faculty Oversight:

Oversees the Academic Council responsibilities

Makes decisions about academic personnel, such as faculty appointments, promotions, etc.

Ensures classes are adequately staffed

Oversees faculty advising

Completes faculty and staff performance evaluations

Encourages and improves teaching and learning, including fostering the development of new teaching methods.

Fiscal Responsibility:

Develops budgets for academic divisions and ensures fiscal accountability.

SCC Representation:

Provides regular status updates to the Executive Leadership Team, President's Cabinet, and the Spartanburg County Commission for Higher Education as appropriate

Being active in institutional committees

Attends institutional and programmatic events (graduation, etc.)

Oversees academic department activities (pinning ceremonies, open houses, etc.)

Minimum Requirements:

Master's Degree plus 7 years of progressively responsible related work experience.

An earned doctorate.

Minimum of five years each of teaching and progressive academic leadership experience.

Previous experience as a Provost or Vice Provost.
