Job Description :

Under the direction of the Provost, the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs (VPAA) oversees educational policy and academic programs, including program review and improvement.

Oversees Educational Policy and Academic Programs:
  • Designs and executes a comprehensive periodic review of academic programs
  • Ensures quality of academic programs
  • Manages course offerings each semester
  • Develops and implements new curriculum and programs
  • Oversees and directs the ongoing assessment of student learning across the institution
  • Ensures Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes is timely and continuous improvement decisions are data-driven
  • Ensures academic policies and procedures are in place and updated on a periodic cycle
  • Addresses and resolves student complaints
  • Ensures successful programmatic accrediting annual reports, self-studies, site visits, etc.
  • Faculty Oversight:
  • Oversees the Academic Council responsibilities
  • Makes decisions about academic personnel, such as faculty appointments, promotions, etc.
  • Ensures classes are adequately staffed
  • Oversees faculty advising
  • Completes faculty and staff performance evaluations
  • Encourages and improves teaching and learning, including fostering the development of new teaching methods.
  • Fiscal Responsibility:

    Develops budgets for academic divisions and ensures fiscal accountability.

    SCC Representation:
  • Provides regular status updates to the Executive Leadership Team, President's Cabinet, and the Spartanburg County Commission for Higher Education as appropriate
  • Being active in institutional committees
  • Attends institutional and programmatic events (graduation, etc.)
  • Oversees academic department activities (pinning ceremonies, open houses, etc.)
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's Degree plus 7 years of progressively responsible related work experience.
  • An earned doctorate.
  • Minimum of five years each of teaching and progressive academic leadership experience.
  • Previous experience as a Provost or Vice Provost.
