Salary: Depends on QualificationsLocation : GA, GAJob Type: TemporaryJob Number: 6403Department: Water Treatment PlantOpening Date: 09/16/2024This position is responsible for using Supervisory and Technical water plant operation skills and licensed work engaged in operating and maintaining equipment in the water plant and remotes sites. Work involves operators engaged in filtering, chemically treating, pumping and testing raw and processed water in preparation for distribution. Duties also includes preventative maintenance of plant equipment and the efficient operation of the water treatment plant, pumping stations and managing water tank levels with limited guidance. Major Duties
- Team leader, operates and maintains equipment such as pumps, blowers, motors, bar screens, chemical feed systems, laboratory and other monitoring equipment.
- Make necessary adjustments to chemical dosages, waste and returns sludge to maintain compliance with permit limits.
- Monitors improper operation of equipment and prepare work orders for need of repair.
- Collects water samples, performs lab tests and daily reports.
- Maintain daily log and reports
- Log data into computerized system for state reports.
- Operates sludge belt press.
- Operates pumps and other equipment
- Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Four (4) years experience in the field of water treatment plant operation
- Class I Water treatment plant operation certification (State of GA.)
- Valid GA. drivers license
Knowledge Required by the Position
- Knowledge of all Federal, State and Local safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Water treatment/ pretreatment practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Water Laboratory analyses for process control.
- Skills in performing routine mechanical repairs.
- Ability to detect flaws and defects in the operation of treatment equipment and initiate proper corrective actions.
- Ability to prepare and maintain reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-worker and the general public.
- Ability to ascend and descend vertically in distance up to 25 feet.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to use a two-way radio.
- Ability to drive standard equipped vehicles.
- Ability to negotiate uneven terrain.
- Ability to read and interpret charts, graphs and gauges.
- Ability to tolerate environments containing dust, dirt, grease, smoke, fumes, and potential hazards.
Supervisory Controls: Work is assigned by Plant Supervisor according to department goals and objective. Guidelines: Guidelines include Federal and State laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to water treatment. Complexity: The work consist of water treatment/ pretreatment maintenance tasks. Scope and Effect: This position is to provide responsible skilled and licensed work in the operation and maintenance of equipment in water treatment/ pretreatment plants. Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with co-workers, plant management and the general public. Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems and provide services. Physical Demands:
- Intermittent periods of sitting, standing and walking.
- Collecting samples, operating/repairing equipment and changing chemical systems.
- Climbing stairs and ladders reaching over equipment to make adjustments, turning large valves climbing into confined space, lifting objects weighting at least 50 pounds and using tools requiring a high degree of dexterity.
