Position Summary:

Painter for Chartway Arena at ODU will work closely with the Director of Parking and Venue Maintenance in all aspects of painting within Chartway Arena.

This role will pay an hourly wage of $20.

Chartway Arena is a 9,100-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Old Dominion University. Operated by OVG since it opened in 2002, Chartway Arena is known as one of the premier mid-sized collegiate venues in the country. Chartway Arena is home to Old Dominion Monarch Men's and Women's basketball, as well as concerts, family shows and other attractions for the Hampton Roads area. Responsibilities:
  • Apply paint to surfaces including walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
  • Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  • Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
  • Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
  • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
  • Use ladders, lifts, and scaffolding to reach areas of work.
  • Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
  • Apply several coats according to paint directions.
  • Apply touchups or second coats.
  • Remove paint splatters when finished.
  • Clean up all equipment and work site when completed.
  • Facilitate in other areas of facility operations on an as needed basis.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, holidays and hours as needed.
  • Maintain a professional work ethic.
  • Provide the highest customer service excellence.
  • Maintain a cooperative, team-like attitude in working with supervisors and fellow employees (including other departments).
  • Maintain safe working conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
  • Must be able to use a paint brush, and paint roller
  • Must have a basic knowledge of sheetrock repair.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of practices and procedures related to facility maintenance and proper use and care of the equipment.
  • Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative
  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
  • Model all safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum of six (6) months related experience preferred.
  • Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time (8 hours or more)
  • Position is routinely required to work outdoors and is exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.)
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
