Syndeo Staffing has an immediate opening for a Bus Utility Worker for the City of Wichita Transit Department.This position is a helper to a Journeyman mechanic. The work involves performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled mechanical tasks in and around a garage assisting a mechanic who maintains and repairs diesel and related mechanical equipment. The employee performs duties in accordance with established trade practices and specific oral instructions. Work is subject to close supervision while in process and upon completion. Work is supervised as needed by a higher-level mechanic or other supervisor. Schedule: Monday - Friday 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM Pay: $15.30Examples of Work PerformedAssists in the repairs and maintenance of all bus systems with guidance.Cleans, oils, greases, washes and polishes buses.Performs preventive maintenance inspections on busesDismantles and prepares bus equipment for general repairs.Cleans and assembles tools.Assists in changing and repairing tires, checking and installing batteries, and painting buses.Cleans work shop and garage and arranges storeroom.Performs the duties of Bus Utility Worker when needed.Makes unassisted trade outs that do not require mechanical repairs.These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.Requirements of WorkSome knowledge of the principles of bus mechanics and of the common practices, materials, tools and equipment of the tradeAbility to do semi-skilled mechanical repair tasks, and to make routine mechanical installations and adjustmentsAbility to understand and carry out simple written and oral instructionsSkill in the routine use of the standard tools of the mechanic tradeAbility to lift, bend, and twist as necessary to remove, repair, or recondition and replace body parts, interior parts, suspension parts, and glass.Ability to tolerate exposure to fluids and solvents used in vehicle repair work.Ability to perform continuous manual and physical labor while standing on a cement floor.Ability to lift and carry bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds (heavier objects with the assistance of another person).Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of pressure using tools that tighten, loosen or cut.Ability to work independently on the night shiftAbility to provide own hand tools and storage cabinet should job assignment require the use of tools on a regular basisAbility to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements within six months of hire.An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.Ability to read, interpret and apply information contained in technical repair manuals.Required Experience and TrainingExperience in servicing and assisting in the repair of vehicular equipment, plus mechanical trade courses and a minimum of five years of unrestricted licensed driving experience are required. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.
