City of DeLand120 South Florida AvenueDeLand, FL 32720Phone: (386) ###-####RECREATION SUPERVISORDepartment:1402 Parks & Recreation Exempt: NoReports To:Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Pay Wage: $21.38Position Type: Full-Time Hours: 40 hrs/weekJob Summary:This position performs professional recreation duties, some administrative and mostly hands-on organization of City recreation activities, programs, special events, and community rentals. Under the direction of the Director, this employee will assist the Deputy Director and Recreation Manager in administering a comprehensive community recreation schedule, including the effective use of a wide variety of recreational areas, facilities, concessions, and equipment. The Recreation Supervisor assures that programming and event day objectives are accomplished through the planning and supervision of a variety of professional and paraprofessional recreation personnel, vendors, and volunteers assigned to specific aspects of a program. The employee must exercise a high quality of independent judgment, ingenuity, and customer service skills to accomplish goals and objectives. Job Description:DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in the supervision of scheduling and organization of recreational facilities and concessions.
  • Assists in meeting and coordinating facilities, programs and activities with local community interest groups to maximize services.
  • Assists with monitoring vendor agreements and their operations.
  • Assists with obtaining data for quarterly, monthly, and yearly reports.
  • Assists in organizing and developing, a variety of programs for all age groups.
  • Assists in preparing, promoting, and coordinating recreational programs; prepare program marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedule of events, pamphlets and brochures.
  • Assists in training and supervising full and part-time recreational staff, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by Department leadership

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High school or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Some experience in recreational activities, sports, and special event activities etc. is required.
  • Some experience in scheduling and carrying out recreational programs and activities is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Within first year, must become and remain CPR & First Aid trained and certified.
  • Must pass a state of Florida Level 2 background check.
  • Within first year, obtain required food service certifications to manage a concession stand
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, City officials, other agency officials, public groups and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms.
  • Must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Thorough knowledge of a wide variety of recreational activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of how to provide a high-quality level of customer service to a variety of diverse groups and interests, internally and externally.
  • Ability to assist in developing and coordinating recreational programs suited to the needs of the community.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and direct the activities and effective working relationships with employees, city officials, social organizations and the general public.
  • Ability to interpret effectively the policies of the Department to the employees and the public.
  • Ability to personally relate in a positive and professional manner to adults, children and young people.
  • Ability to maintain good order in the use of community buildings and facilities.
  • Sound knowledge of safety practices in the performance of all assigned activities and programs.
  • Ability to use a computer, with knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to coach or officiate a number of sports activities in a contingency plan of action.
  • Ability to work un-traditional hours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: This job requires walking, standing, bending, and stooping. The employee needs the ability to communicate both orally and writing.
