Job Description :
Rebecca School is a developmental program that utilizes the DIRFloortime method, a relationship-based model of teaching instruction developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan. Rebecca School is opening a new location in Mount Vernon, NY for the 2024 schoolyear and is seeking an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to work with students age 3 to 21 with neurodevelopmental delays in relating, communicating and thinking. As an Adaptive PE Teacher, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support the students' health and wellness, and their social, emotional and academic growth. Rebecca School North is an expansion of the Rebecca School in NYC after 18 successful years of serving students with neurodevelopment delays in relating and communicating.Pay Range is $53,000 to $75,000 depending on degree and experience (based on 12-month position) RESPONSIBILITIES | WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Provide adaptive physical education to each classroom twice per week
  • Maintain equipment in the gym
  • Clean equipment and clear the gym for Greenspan set-up
  • Arrange swimming program; accompany and arrange staff for weekly swimming
  • Teach two health classes per week
  • Supervise the outdoor segment of bussing three days per week
  • Plan and organize PE-related days and events (e.g., Jersey Day and Stairs Week)
  • Collaborate with Community Resource Coordinator to arrange special events
  • Member of the Crisis Team
  • Monitor and train staff and students on proper use of gym equipment and implement modifications when necessary
  • Attend occupational, physical therapy, and education department meetings once per month
  • Participate in weekly teacher meetings, team meetings, Greenspan meetings and supervision meetings
  • Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs and continuing education programs
  • Ensure safety of students
QUALIFICATIONS | WHAT YOU BRING
  • Master's Degree in Adapted Physical Education or Physical Education
  • NY State License in A.P.E. or P.E.
  • Experience with the DIRFloortime method (or open to learning it)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff and parents
