Christie Clinic's department of Host Services is seeking a PRN (as-needed) Transporter/Host at our University, Windsor, and Fields clinics from Monday-Friday with varying hours.This position provides curbside patient support by providing safe, timely and accurate transport of patients requiring wheelchair assistance or transportation to their destination within our facilities. The Host/Transporter also performs Host duties, greets all patient, staff and visitors with a smile, while directing and assisting patients. They also monitor the main entrance and parking areas and notify security of any possible problems when not transporting.JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Ensures the comfort of the patient by being attentive, engaging in appropriate conversation involving the patient and making use the proper equipment is available upon request.
  • Safely, quickly and efficiently transports patients from their vehicle or main entrance through the check in process and onto their destination within the facility.
  • Alerts clinical staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or alerts management of equipment malfunction.
  • Wipes down and disinfects wheelchairs after each use.
  • Monitor the incoming visitors and parking lot for possible problems and notify security.
  • Respond to routine requests for information.
  • Participates and leads daily department huddles.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Regularly participates in ongoing education and trainings to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other work or projects as required.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Demands include standing and walking for long periods of time, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling of wheelchairs while transporting patients of all different physical abilities and shapes.Ability to lift 50 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20. This position requires transporters to possess stamina, strength, and be in good physical shape.TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed at the front entrance and throughout the facility. This position requires both inside and outside activity in all weather conditions. Frequent contact with patients and communicable diseases is common.Requires working full-time and overtime hours.
