Job Summary:
The Detention Officer is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of the county detention facility, ensuring the safe custody, supervision, and control of inmates. This position involves monitoring inmate activities, enforcing facility rules, conducting routine inspections, and providing support for booking, housing, and transportation of individuals in custody.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inmate Supervision: Monitor inmate behavior and activities, ensuring compliance with facility rules and regulations. Conduct regular headcounts and security checks.
- Security and Safety: Enforce facility security procedures, including searches of inmates, cells, and common areas for contraband. Respond to security incidents or emergencies as they arise.
- Booking and Release: Assist with intake procedures, including processing inmate records, fingerprinting, photographing, and securing personal belongings. Ensure accurate documentation for releases.
- Documentation: Maintain logs and reports related to inmate conduct, incidents, inspections, and other relevant facility operations.
- Communication: Collaborate with law enforcement, medical staff, and other detention center personnel to coordinate the care and security of inmates.
- Compliance: Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous law enforcement, corrections, or security experience preferred but not required.
- Certifications: Must obtain Oklahoma State Jailer's Certification within six months of hire.
- Licenses: Valid Oklahoma driver's license with a good driving record.

- Capable of following orders and working within a structured environment.
- Strong observational skills with attention to detail and safety protocols.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work on your feet for long periods, including walking, standing, and occasional physical exertion.
- Capable of lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions:
This position operates within a secured detention facility. Officers may be exposed to challenging environments and individuals, including stressful and high-tension situations.
