Payette School District has the following opening: Full-time CustodianJOB SUMMARYTo provide students, staff, and community with a safe, clean, and comfortable school environment.The position requires manual labor involving general cleaning and housekeeping, grounds-keeping, moderate to extensive maintenance inside or outside the school building, including watering and snow removal, and exposure to health and occupational hazards. Assignments often involve heavy lifting, multiple tasks, and inclement weather.Duties are assigned by the facilities director with additional duties determined by district administration. Applicants must have the ability to work independently, and/or interact with other departments and staff.QUALIFICATIONS1. High school diploma or General Education Degree2. Minimum experience as determined by the Board in plant operation and maintenance, cleaning methods and procedures, repairs, security, heating and ventilation, care of carpet, cleaning, housekeeping, and proper handling of hazardous materials3. Is familiar with material safety data sheets and asbestos abatement documents4. Ability to perform long periods of standing, walking, climbing, stooping; kneeling, bending, and twisting at the neck and trunk; moving furniture; pushing/pulling items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines; frequent lifting of objects weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally move objects weighing up to ninety pounds; and climbing ladders5. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, to reach above the head and reach forward, to grasp tools6. Ability and willingness to do general cleaning and minor repairs7. Self-motivated8. Works well under pressure and deadlines9. Works well with students and staff10. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills11. Maintain confidentiality of staff and studentsPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TOMaintenance Supervisor, Superintendent of School and Building AdministrationMAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInspecting Facilities and Readying them for Use1. Open and/or close the building each day and determine, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all appropriate lights are turned off2. Operate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity3. Conduct an ongoing program of general and preventative maintenance, upkeep, and repair, making minor repairs and reporting major repair needs, unsafe situations, vandalism, or other damage to school property promptly to the maintenance and grounds supervisor or night shift head custodian4. Move furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities and as directed5. Other duties as assignedOther Building Maintenance1. Clean classrooms, offices, the library, and the faculty room daily, including dust mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying wastebaskets in these areas2. Clean corridors after each school day and during the day when their condition requires it3. Clean and sanitize bathroom and locker room fixtures and floors daily, and replenish paper and soap supplies as needed4. Clean and sanitize all fixtures, including telephones, door handles, and drinking fountains, daily5. Clean the cafeteria dining areas after use6. Clean all windows on both the inside and outside as scheduled7. Identify maintenance problems and report larger problems to the appropriate person promptly8. Keep maintenance closets in a clean and tidy condition9. Use supplies and chemicals properly and safely according to instructions on the labels of the manufacturer's containers10. Other duties as assignedGrounds maintenance1. Keep the building premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times2. Shovel, plow, salt, and sweep sidewalks, steps, driveways, and parking areas as necessary3. Perform summer work to include such tasks as deep cleaning, painting, and any other duties assigned by the Maintenance SupervisorOther1. Obey all federal and state laws, administrative rules, and Board policies pertaining to plant operation, fire, safety, and environment2. Comply with all federal and state laws, administrative rules, and Board policies pertaining to the storage and disposal of recyclables, trash, waste, and debris3. Maintain and prepare work-related records and reports as directed4. Inform the Maintenance Supervisor of replacement supplies in advance of need5. Keep maintenance closets in a clean and tidy condition6. Remain on school premises for the entire shift7. Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment and inform the maintenance and grounds supervisor or night shift head custodian of replacements in advance of need8. Seek assistance should emergencies arise9. Represent the school district in a positive manner10. Know and follow school district policy and chain of command11. Perform other duties as assignedCOMPENSATIONSalary is based on experience and skills; starting pay is $15.00 per hour for 40 hours per week. The position qualifies for benefits that include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; PERSI retirement; paid vacation; and access to optional ancillary insurance and retirement products.This position shall be considered employment at will in all respects.
