Department Summary HSC Health is the academic clinical practice of the Health Science Center, where quality care meets quality education. With primary and multispecialty care offices located on the HSC campus and the UNT System campuses in Denton and Dallas, HSC Health is dedicated to improving health outcomes and building healthier communities. Its care extends beyond traditional settings, including mobile health initiatives, hospitals, surgery centers, long-term care facilities, and in-home care. Interprofessional teams collaborate to create personalized, optimized treatment plans for each patient, involving physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, specialized technicians, and nurses. Position Overview The Patient Access Representative will perform clerical duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and one year of customer service experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to multitask in a busy environment while maintaining professional composure.Skilled in consistently completing assignments on time, accurately and with attention to detail.Excellent customer service and strong communication skills.Demonstrates basic skills and knowledge of the position. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual Required License/Registration/Certifications - None Job Duties:
- Operate office equipment, such as voice mail messaging systems, spreadsheet, or other software applications to prepare reports, financial statements, letters, case histories, or medical records
- Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff. Schedule and confirm patient appointments, surgeries, or medical consultations
- Maintain medical records, technical library, or correspondence files
- Greet visitors, ascertain the purpose of visit and direct them to appropriate staff. Complete patient appointment check in and check out
- Compile and scan medical charts, reports, or correspondence, using a computer
- Receive and route messages or documents, such as laboratory results, to appropriate staff
- Transmit correspondence or medical records by mail, email, or fax
- Perform various clerical or administrative functions, such as ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies
- Interview patients to complete documents, case histories, or registration. Gather patient insurance information and check eligibility
- Maintain patient schedule prep and ensure it is completed within the directed timeframe
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet ongoing needs of the department
