Job DetailsJob Location91 - New York, NYSalary Range$130,000.00 - $160,000.00 Salary/yearDescriptionMiddle School Dean of Students to begin July 1, 2025The Spence School Middle Division seeks a dynamic educator with a vision for student life for the position of MS Dean of Students. This individual will lead with purpose and passion, care deeply about student development, understand that individual identity development is central to a strong education, and collaborate with leadership to support and build student programs, discipline systems, and other structures. This administrative position reports directly to the Head of Middle School.Responsibilities
  • Work with the Head of Middle School to oversee the student life program and student culture of the Middle School.
  • Oversee student conduct process
  • Organize and lead Middle School Community Time gatherings
  • Coordinate Middle School student clubs and organizations and support student leadership development
  • Work with the Head of Middle School and Director of Institutional Equity to develop and implement the MS service and equity co-curriculum
  • Lead the MS grade-level deans in co-curricular programming for the development of personal, emotional, social, and intellectual integrity of all students
  • Oversee safety and security measures for MS students
TeachingThe MS Dean will be expected, as are most administrators at Spence, to teach one class in their division, to be determined based on their interest and the needs of the departments. QualificationsQualifications/Expectations:
  • Understanding of the independent school academic environment and the connection between academic and student affairs
  • Passion for moral, character, and academic development of MS students
  • Experience with and commitment to working with a diverse student population
  • Proven track-record of effective practices with both individual and group advising
  • Ability to work independently and tolerate ambiguity
  • Strong communication skills with students, parents, faculty
  • Delight in middle school students
