Job DescriptionJob Posting: Writing Center TutorLa Sierra UniversityPosition: Writing Center TutorLocation: HUM 101, La Sierra UniversityApplication Deadline: December 6, 2024Position Overview: Writing Center Tutor (Student Position)Writing Center Tutors will meet one-on-one in the Writing Center and online with current La Sierra University students seeking assistance with academic and professional writing projects. Students with a solid grasp of the English language and strong writing skills from all disciplines/majors are welcome and encouraged to apply. After receiving training, tutors are responsible for creating and scheduling coaching appointments online and in person as requested. They should foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all writers.Required Experience:•Strong communication skills and a passion for helping others•Public speaking skills encouraged•Completion of ENGL 111, 112, and 113 with an A grade or above; OR completion of AP Language or AP Literature with a score of 4 or above•Must be a current La Sierra University studentRequired Skills: Tutors support student writing for all subjects and all levels of study offered through La Sierra University. They help peers develop their writing skills, enhance their critical thinking and reading skills, and foster a love for effective communication. Tutors are expected to function independently and responsibly in a minimally-supervised environment, collaborating with instructors and professors to improve student skills. To achieve these ends, tutors must have a solid background in the English language, be strong writers, possess grammar and editing skills, and be willing to seek clarification in unfamiliar fields. Professional communication skills and punctuality are essential. It is helpful if tutors speak more than one language. We are also starting to implement new Writing Center workshops to benefit students with their writing and critical reading skills, for which tutors may earn digital badges. Tutors can also apply to lead workshops. Previous tutoring experience is not required but is desirable; regardless, all tutors will undergo training before helping students.To Apply:
