What you will be doing:
  • Support the Executive Director, Legal and Regulatory Projects and Resolution, and others in Legal, with respect to all workstreams relating to:
    • CLS's response to Member resolution and stress scenarios, including but not limited to the following: (i) updating internal and external documentation; (ii) help respond to various consultations, with a focus on consultation relating to resolution; (iii) ensuring that CLS will comply with applicable standards and demonstrate thought leadership in this area; (iv) assisting with any exercise or external engagement designed to explore important issues, including follow-up relating to such exercises; (v) understanding and assessing regulatory analysis and developments in this a
    • Advanced degree required (Law school or PhD in relevant subject matter a plus)
    • Law degree highly preferred
    • BA / BS required
    • Engagement with the FMI Forum or the Legal/Regulatory Subgroup
    • Engagement with other FMIs
  • Facilitate time-sensitive, high quality regulatory deliverables (include bespoke decks for discussion with authorities) by coordinating and managing expectations internally across divisions as well as with regulatory stakeholders
  • Assist in monitoring regulators, governmental bodies, and industry groups for relevant issuances or decision making that may impact CLS and/or its Members with respect to resolution or other issues
  • Assist in preparing regular reports to regulators, senior management and the Board
  • Assist in coordinating with relevant CLS functions (i.e. Risk, Compliance and Legal) to help provide an integrated, consistent, and forward-looking perspective with respect to resolution or other issues
  • Support the Compliance & Regulatory Coordination Committee and assist with related matters
  • Support updates to the Joint Monitoring Procedures
  • Support updates to the long forms summaries of the legal opinions each year
  • Upon request, assist the Legal Department with respect to certain legal matters, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Facilitate the ongoing development of the Legal and Regulatory Projects and Resolution function as the knowledge center for CLS on all policy matters related to resolution and other matters
  • Assist in managing and evolving CLS's relationships with regulatory stakeholders with a specific focus on resolution and other regulatory developments
  • Support and assist in further developing CLS's relationships with the regulatory community and industry groups across jurisdictions relating to resolution and other matters
  • Assist with monitoring of governmental bodies and industry groups in the region for decision-making that impacts CLS and/or its Settlement Members relating to resolution and other matters
Professional Qualifications / Certifications
  • Advanced degree required (Law school or advanced degree in relevant subject matter a plus)
  • Prior record of academic excellence
  • Perfect spoken and written English
  • Experience at either a law firm, governmental agency or financial institution, ideally actively engaged in resolution planning, including issues relating to access to financial market infrastructures
  • Strong drafting skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to quickly understand complex concepts and move forward in applying that understanding
  • Excellent judgement
  • Practical
  • High level of maturity and ability to engage with regulatory authorities
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to break down complex information into simple and concise language for a range of audiences

What we're looking for:
  • Must be comfortable assisting with the process of leading cross-divisional projects and organizing work streams that require input from various divisions or departments.
