Job Description :
  • The Emergency Services Recovery Specialist (RS) is a member of the care team providing services for a diverse population seeking or receiving emergency services where there is a substance use disorder with or without a co-morbid mental disorder.
  • The RS improves the delivery of emergency service processes by providing targeted, immediate, and brief interventions including but not limited to: providing recovery education; supporting patients in crisis by identifying acute stressors and attempting to mediate them; advocating for patients to ensure their needs are adequately acknowledged and addressed; supporting families who present to the Crisis Response Center (CRC) or Emergency Department (ED) requesting information about substance use disorders and co-morbid mental disorders.
  • Provide recovery education for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, MOUD, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering persons goals and interests
  • Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community-based activities (e.g., work, school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc.).
  • Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in EHN Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in EHN or community resources and develop strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Maintain contact either in-person, by phone and/or e-mail with recovering person for 12 months once they engage in a recovery program to ensure ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the EHN if needed.
  • Serve as an essential link between patients and all other care providers. RS is responsible for interacting with patient service representatives to expedite scheduling for follow-up and acute care appointments within EHN. Meet with patient at least monthly to assess compliance, address patient needs and gain insight into unmet needs. Coordinate information and patient needs (social service, health and medication) with appropriate interdisciplinary provider: PCP, social work, MOUD provider, Damp;A provider, etc.
  • Follow patients throughout the care continuum, including inpatient admissions, discharges from all levels of care, and collaborate with inpatient care management resources.
  • Track all data requirements related to client activity and requirements set within Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Health or other EHN key departments.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility and creativity, clinical expertise, initiative, leadership, and communication skills necessary to collaborate with a medical team in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • This position requires providing service to the following age population(s): children, adolescents, adults and older adults in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
  • Lived experience as a consumer of SUD services (required).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Maintained a job or volunteer position for at least 12 months within the past three years or earned 24 post-secondary education credits (required).
  • Certification: Psychological First Aid (preferred).

Certification: Certified Recovery Specialist, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (required).

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
