Job Description Supervised by the Assistant Director, the Student Development Coordinator, Sr. assist in the daily operations of First-Generation Programs TRIO Student Support Services program. The Coordinator must demonstrate a solid understanding of the needs of first-generation, income-eligible and students with disabilities in higher education to administer non-academic support and guidance of assigned students of all class levels. The Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with the Assistant Directo on data driven decisions to ensure meaningful and purposeful experiences and interactions for the program's first and second year students in order to foster a successful foundation for retention and a path towards graduation.Partnering with Students and Stakeholders - 40%
- Provides direct services to SSS participants so that they may be retained and graduate. Maintains accurate and complete files on students, documenting all services, contacts, and activities.
- Assesses participants' wellness (academic, career and personal) and promotes student growth by determining suitable developmental tasks; assists student in establishing realistic and attainable academic, career and personal goals.
- Advises participants on general academic, career and personal options; assists them in developing coping skills and study habits necessary for academic retention and graduation. If needed, refers participants to campus resources or to academic advisor.
- Monitors participants' academic status: analyzes progress reports, identifies current and potential areas to be addressed. Assists student in establishing
- realistic and attainable academic, career and personal goals.
- Reviews student progress; follows up on progress through personal contact, phone calls, e-mail and other electronic correspondence.
- Acts as a liaison between students and campus partners to clarify various policies and procedures; assists students in completion of complex forms and other
- university documents.
- Collaborates with various campus partners to identify strategies for student retention and success.
- Coordinates the planning of SSS program events such as cultural and educational event calendar.
- Serves as a liaison for key campus partners, including NAU Advancement | Foundation and the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
Hiring and Supervision - 30%
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, and supervision of student employees.
- Supervise 5-7 Peer Mentor student employee staff.
- Assist with training of staff, focusing on advising policies, trends, and application of advising techniques within the SSS program.
- Implement best practices in accordance with the grant objectives and outcomes; helps set standards and program focus alongside the Assistant Director.
Program Recruitment and Assessment - 25%
- Actively participate in the recruitment plan to attract first-generation, income eligible, and students with disabilities to the program.
- Presents First-Generation Programs and TRIO Student Support Services information to internal and external stakeholders (i.e. prospective students, campus partners and student employees). This includes informal tabling and formal presentations.
- Gathers and assesses relevant reports and recommends programmatic changes based on participant data with a focus on first and second year participant retention and persistence.
- Maintains department related data used to conduct research and evaluate program effectiveness, including participant satisfaction, event reflection, and other relevant surveys.
- Collaborates with various campus partners to identify strategies for student retention and success.
- Work with NAU Foundation to identify funding opportunities and works with Assistant Director to develop proposals.
- Maintains social media platforms, online calenda, and website to inform about events, engagement opportunities, etc.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling or field related to area of assignment.
- 3 years of experience in teaching and/or advisement.
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a field related to area of assignment AND two years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working with first-generation, low-income, students with disabilities or historically underrepresented students.
- Previous experience with providing individual counseling, academic advising, mentoring, and/or coaching of college students.
- TRIO experience.

- Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license and be eligible for van certification.
Driving Requirement Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed.The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose.
