**POSITION DETAILS**

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Masters Degree (27 months program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical schools mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY SoM places a special emphasis on the recruitment of those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine and on training high quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New Yorks medically under-served communities. As a major priority, CUNY SoM also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to more closely reflect the diversity of our student body.

The Dean's Office is currently seeking an Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment. Reporting to Dean, this position serves as a key advisor to the Dean of the CUNY SoM for all curriculum and assessment matters. The Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment will provide career-focused, application-oriented undergraduate and graduate, 7-year BS/MD program, curriculum that will deliver practical knowledge and skills to prepare students for success in their chosen medical professional careers. This position will also develop and refine a comprehensive student assessment program aligned with SoM enrollment, assessment and graduation results and accreditation standards. This person will collaborate with leaders to streamline data collection and analysis to clearly communicate student performance and post-graduation outcomes. The Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

+ Oversees undergraduate, undergraduate medical and graduate medical education curriculum development, standards for content, and supervises staff to ensure appropriate delivery; Engages faculty through the Curriculum Committee to develop curricular innovations using multiple learning formats including online learning technology.

+ Implement and facilitate ongoing collaboration with a Curriculum Committee throughout curriculum planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. Ensure that all directives of the Committee are implemented and monitor of outcome measures for quality of education.

+ Collaborate with Associate Dean for Clinical Medical Education to coordinate curricular efforts and work with leaders of other health sciences disciplines to develop innovative and interdisciplinary medical education programming; Combine and consolidate curriculum where appropriate to do so and initiate opportunities for inter-professional education and training.

+ In collaboration with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) Faculty Accreditation Lead, serve as a resource and subject matter expert in regional accreditation, assessment, and planning for the College; Participate in the in planning and implementation of strategies to advance and maintain LCME and ARC-PA accreditation;

+ Provide comprehensive reporting that outline the benchmarks, analyses, and trends related to regulatory and other medical education information to support data driven strategies for academic innovation and programming; Ensure continuous assessment of the college to support decision making to advance institutional effectiveness and efficiency for student success;

+ Based on assessment data and other analytics, recommends policies and procedures to improve the Schools institutional effectiveness programs; Serves as a member of various college-wide committees to ensure collaborative efforts support the institutional effectiveness of the School.

+ Ensures appropriate student evaluation techniques are utilized, integrates measures of competency into student evaluations, and develops separate processes for formative and summative evaluations; Facilitate and monitor the Academic Coaching and Step 1/Step 2 coaching programs.

+ Oversees the administrative activities of the Curriculum and Assessment staff including development, performance management, and various workflow approvals; Oversee the following units in the Medical Education department: Learning Management System/ Course Assessment, Educational IT Course Administration, Learning Resource Center, Registrars office, Digital and Academic Librarians.

+ Represents the SoM at various events related to medical education, curriculum development and assessment; Meet with other medical education professionals from other schools and leaders of regional hospital systems to build strategic relationships, and increase visibility and growth of our programs.

+ Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or designee.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

PREFERRED:

+ EdD, PhD, MD or relevant doctoral degree and a minimum of 8-10 years of related management and academic experience at a senior level within academic medicine or higher education.

+ Experience with LCME and ARC-PA requirements and accreditation site visits and advanced experience and knowledge about healthcare compliance, regulatory affairs, and operations.

+ Able to partner with clinical, research, and academic administrative leaders and knowledge of emerging health care trends and recognized leader in the health care administration.

+ Proven experience in curriculum development and assessment in medical education and strong understanding of the culture of academic medicine especially in BS/MD programs.

+ Superior interpersonal and effective communication skills (written and oral).

+ Expertise in conflict management, coaching, building and leading cohesive teams.

+ Strong understanding of the culture of academic medicine and the ability to address faculty concerns.

+ Experience working with underrepresented, low income, and marginalized students experience working in health-related or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and Medicine) fields or other health professional pipeline programs highly desirable.

+ Experience with quality curriculum development and assessment principals as it relates to health care disparities to improve the quality of care and health professional decision making.

+ Advanced understanding of the importance of diversity in academic medicine and the impact of educational and health care disparities on medicine.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**

Salary Range: $175,000 - $215,000

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
