The athletic Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of operation and team management including recruitment, training, coaching, and retention of quality student-athletes. The Head Coach must guide, develop, and provide leadership in all functions of an effective program. The primary focus is on the academic success of our student-athletes and teaching the sport of Baseball while incorporating qualities that will create responsible citizens that represent the College, positively. The Head Coach follows rules and guidelines in accordance with NJCAA and MCCAA, develops preliminary budgets, travel and equipment needs, and schedules. In support of the Department, the Coach is responsible for the proper use of a Mid company card and promptly submits accurate expense information and receipts. In agreement with the Athletic Director, the Coach authorizes expenditures of any assistant coaches. Also, in conjunction with the Athletic Director, the Head Coach ensures that Mids hiring practices are adhered to. This position oversees assistant coaches and makes them cognizant of Mid Policies, procedures, and best practices.

Provides leadership; organizes, directs and administers all aspects of the programIdentifies, evaluates & recruits academically prepared students in accordance with College policies, MCCAA and NJCAA regulationsSupervises and evaluates assistant coaches and staffProvides mentoring and academic oversight of student athletes to ensure retention & graduationEncourages and nurtures success among student athletes in the areas of citizenship, academics, and athleticsInstructs players on rules, regulations, use of equipment, strategies, and proper techniqueOrganizes and manages quality practices on a reasonable scheduleDetermines and implements game strategiesResponsible for the safety and conduct of the team while conducting the program with the highest degree of integrityProvides leadership for the team and displays good sportsmanship toward players, opponents, officials, and spectatorsMaintains and monitors equipmentLeads and participates in efforts to raise funds for the Mid athletic programsMaintains fiscal responsibility and integrityParticipates in community, campus, and athletic initiatives when appropriateMust support and initiate campus and community engagementMaintains a positive relationship with the administration, faculty, students and parentsTimely submission of all required requests/paperworkRequired to become certified as a Campus Security Authority; as such, adherence to all required reporting. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the Colleges Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligationsPerforms other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, and strategies
- Ability to work effectively with players, administrators, parents, and the community
- Knowledge of collegiate sports programs, NJCCA and MCCAA rules and eligibility requirements, and compliance with NJCAA and College regulations
- Skills in managing operations, budgeting, and supervising personnel
- Must be well organized with the ability to handle multiple assignments as well as maintain records and files as needed
- Problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision
- Must have working knowledge of physical education, athletic, and recreation equipment and facilities
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Successful completion of NJCAA certification exam preferred
- First Aid and CPR certification required (or ability to receive cert.)
- Valid drivers license and a good driving record required
Experience:
- High school head varsity coaching and/or college coaching experience preferred
- Fundraising experience preferred
Working Environment:
- Position includes some amount of physical and emotional stress.
- Physical exertion is sometimes required.
- Duties are conducted indoors and outdoors.
- Noise levels during practices and games may be excessive at times.
- The duties of this position require a high degree of sensitivity to the personality characteristics of students, staff, and community.
- Frequent travel and driving is required to attend games and practices.
- Duties may require travel between, and off, campuses.
- Working days and hours may vary and include evenings and weekends.
