POSITION: - Teacher Aide/Floater afterschool programDEPARTMENT: Early Childhood Birth through Five REPORTS TO: Educational Site Director DATE: October 2024 Salary: $17,680 per year (as per union contract), 15 annual vacation days, and nine sick yearly leave days.Schedule: Monday through Friday hours vary based on program needs. 9:00 am-1:00 pm, 12:30 pm-4:30 pm, 1:00 pm-5:00 pm, 1:30 pm-5:30 pm.Job Summary: This role involves assisting the lead teacher in the classroom, as well as providing support in the kitchen or office. Teacher aides are responsible for helping to plan and supervise school children in accordance with relevant policies and regulations to ensure the smooth implementation of classroom activities. Additionally, they oversee the after-school program and the well-being of 15-20 children. This position also involves providing support in other areas of the school facility, and at times, assisting in the kitchen under the supervision of a certified cook to prepare and deliver meals to the classroom.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum - High School Diploma/GED required; some college credits preferred. Early childhood education credit is a plus!
- Experience working with young children.
- Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social, or cultural needs.
- Ability to interpret documents such as safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with staff and participants.
TEACHER AIDE ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE: Under the direct supervision of the Center Director, the Teacher aide shall be responsible for:
- Assisted in maintaining a safe and sanitary environment according to Department of Health and DOE /Head Start requirements.
- Assisting and supporting staff in the planning and implementation of programming that considers the emotional, social, physical, cognitive, and language developmental and health needs of the individual child as well as the group
- Work cooperatively with the teacher and coordinator to meet the children's goals and objectives.
- Planned and executed lesson plans and established a consistent routine that was developmentally appropriate based on the age group to which you were assigned.
- Maintaining confidentiality of family records and written and verbal information, including child behavior and parent communication. Notifying the Lead Teacher of child health and behavior concerns or observations.
- Responsibly pick up children during arrival and dismiss children following our escort policy.
- Supporting lead teacher with classroom documentation, forms, lesson planning, and other duties as assigned.
- Participating in ongoing observation of children's health, behavior, and development in keeping with identified Head Start and Grand Street Settlement policies and practices. Consulting with teachers before communicating information about individual children to parents.
- Supporting kitchen coverage as needed, adhering to all health and safety requirements.
- Participating in appropriate training and meetings as assigned.
- Being able to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Flexible schedule to cover for staff as needed. Other duties and special projects as required.
PRE- EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of community-based organizations is preferred.
- Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office, Excel, and Publisher.
- Must be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the families.
- Participates in required professional development activities to enhance skills.
- Maintain CPR, First Aid, and other certifications as per DOH/DOE/HS.
- Criminal background check, including DOE fingerprints and SCR.
- Annual Physical includes MMR, TDAP/Tetanus, TB test, and Varicella.
- The child Mandated report and other training were completed before hiring.
- GSS recommends the candidate to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred based on the demographic served but not required.
