Salary: $62,985.91 - $84,527.97 AnnuallyLocation : Shelton, WAJob Type: Full-timeJob Number: 2024-011Department: Public WorksOpening Date: 09/16/2024Description The person in this position operates light equipment and performs physical labor in completing maintenance and repair work on the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Class 'A' Reclamation Plant, and other public works facilities. Additional responsibilities include conducting laboratory testing and analyzing test results; relating results to plant processes, reporting findings and adjusting plant processes to prevent and/or correct problems. Assume plant technician-in-charge duties as necessary. This position may include on-call duties.All qualified candidates are strongly encouraged to apply by October 14, 2024 (first review). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform chemical, bacteriological, and biological laboratory analyses that are required for the operation of both plants as specified by the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits following specific instructions; record results and report deviations from allowable standards. Recommend to the plant technician, or implement, as the technician-in-charge, plant process changes based on laboratory-testing results and document corrective measures taken Operate laboratory equipment such as balance scales and electronic analyzing devices according to specific directions. Perform preventative and predictive maintenance checks and services on pump and lift station equipment and control mechanisms. Use data management programs to assist in wastewater treatment process changes, operations and reporting. Assist in all aspects of maintaining and repairing public works assets and facilities. Operate light equipment and hand tools in completing public works projects. With professional integrity, establish and maintain appropriate and effective communication and work relationships with the City Manager, City Council, other City departments, as well as the general public, local, state and federal agencies.The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Qualifications/Requirements To perform this job successfully, the person in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years experience in sewage treatment plant maintenance and operations or in a related field. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of SCADA System monitoring and control.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Have a valid current Washington State driver's license and have the ability to follow Washington State Motor Vehicle Laws. Possess a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certification Group III. Have, or have the ability to obtain within six months of employment, a First Aid/CPR Card and a Flagger's Card.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must have good communication skills; requires a calm demeanor in responding to customer questions and/or complaints and dealing with the general public in everyday activities.Ability to use or operate current office technology including hardware, software programs, adding machine, calculator, and lab equipment Ability to operate pick-up trucks, overhead cranes and hoists, riding mower, and other hand tools and equipment required to perform Sewer Department maintenance and repair duties.Ability to follow safety rules and requirements.Ability to work within established guidelines with little direct supervision.Ability to perform repetitious tasks and have a high degree of sound independent judgment. Ability to coordinate various activities and projects with changing priorities, coordinate equipment use, schedule repairs and maintain records.Ability to complete mathematical calculations related to laboratory procedures and wastewater treatment plant operations.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, climb ladders into pump stations, and sit at a desk. The employee must have the ability to exert or lift 50 pounds or more. Must have the ability to perform frequent strenuous physical labor, and to operate trucks and equipment in close quarters.
