Summary: An exempt position responsible for practicing medicine, including surgical services, and managing all aspects of in-patient medical care under the appropriate physician supervision as defined by New York State law. Within physician-physician assistant/nurse practitioner relationship, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners exercise autonomy in medical decision making a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.Job Responsibilities:Conducts physical exams, assesses health status, orders and interprets tests, prescibes medications, and treat illnesses. Consult with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA's Scope of PracticeRound on surgical inpatients and facilitate the appropriate careWrite notes and consultations on patients seenAttend Multi-disciplinary roundsConsult on surgical patients both on the floor and ER Work with nursing, care management, and other colleagues with a team approach and perspectiveMay place and remove surgical drainsConsult appropriate specialties as seen fitMonitors therapies and provides continuity of careTriage patient calls and evaluates patient's problems and concerns. Responds to emergencies including use of CPRCounsels patient/family on health care mattersDocuments patient information and care in the medical record, in a confidential manner, and may maintain departmental statistical database for research and quality purposesFamiliar with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine and physical diagnosisDemonstrates skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data Demonstrates skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention, or referralDemonstrates ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of PA practice. Ability to assist in surgical procedures. Demonstrates ability to collaborate effectively with physiciansDemonstrates ability to communicate effectively with all other disciplines in the medical arenaDemonstrates ability to educate patients, families and staff in a user-friendly mannerDemonstrates ability to demonstrate hand-eye coordination, full range of motion, and manual dexterityEducation, Training, Licensure and Experience RequirementsCurrent New York State Licensed Physician AssistantCurrent National Certification (Highly Recommended)Current White Plains Hospital Physician Assistant Collaborative Practice AgreementCertified in Basic Life Support (BLS)Proficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills approved in the delineation of privilegesOrMasters Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.Current NYS certification as a Nurse Practitioner (either Adult/Geriatric).Maintains a current collaborative practice agreement.Current National Certification (Highly Recommended)Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
