Responsibilities:As a Triage Medical Assistant, you provide real time support by bridging communication between patients and providers and assisting in the coordination of care in both urgent and non-urgent situations.Key duties include:Answering Patient, Family, and Outside Provider Phone Calls:
- Respond to telephone calls from patients, their family members, outside providers, and other parties referred to triage promptly and professionally.
- Gather relevant information from callers to understand their needs and concerns.
Triage Calls:
- Assess the urgency of patient concerns and prioritize calls accordingly.
- Follow established protocols to determine the appropriate course of action.
Appointment Scheduling:
- Make appointments for patients based on urgency and availability.
- Coordinate with other staff members to ensure efficient scheduling.
Instrument Sterilization:
- Assist in sterilizing instruments as needed to maintain a clean and safe environment.
Clinic Rooming and Scribing (as needed):
- Provide support in clinic rooming duties when required.
- Assist with scribing duties during provider appointments if called upon.
Communication:
- Maintain clear and effective communication with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
- Relay important information to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Communicate directly and indirectly with the healthcare provider team in order to appropriately coordinate patient care.
- Provide patients and family members with instructions as documented by their healthcare provider.
- Communicate lab & other test results to families.
- Assist with medication refills per Practice protocol.
- Assist providers and medical assistant teams with patient communication.
- Provide patient education as needed and directed.
Compliance:
- Follow HIPAA, federal, and state requirements to ensure patient confidentiality and data security.
Documentation:
- Accurately and professionally document patient communications and actions in the patient's electronic health records chart.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and professional regulations regarding patient data privacy and documentation.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure a seamless patient experience.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
RequirementsQualifications:
- One, 1+, year(s) experience in a medical setting, preferred.
- Graduated from a Medical Assistant training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized training as identified by Arizona Regulatory Statutes, R4-16-101; or
- Completed an unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) or relevant certification preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications.
- Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable.
- Management and organizational skills to support the leadership of this function.
- Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations.
- Interpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and teammate support needs.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Mathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving.
- Basic to intermediate computer operation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Salary Description $16.38-$23.00/per hour, non-exempt
