Job Description :
JOB SUMMARY The Processing Operator works with limited supervision following prescribed procedures in the packing plant. The processing operator must learn to function in all of the packing room tasks and work in the area of the packing machines where the flats and cartons are added to the machine. The Processing Operator uses their knowledge and experience in the packing room and is of importance in maintaining the Food Safety and Food Quality of all eggs that we produce and sell. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic and tactical work for which this position is accountable: It is the responsibility of the Processing Operator to follow Kreher's pre-established egg processing procedures and guidelines, with limited supervision, to:
  • Act professionally and exude good leadership skills, with the willingness and ability to train others.
  • Operate end-of-lane Ovotrack systems for label setup and production reports.
  • Use required personal safety equipment as specified on the Safety Data Sheets.
  • Communicate with Supervisors regarding any conveyor or equipment problems.
  • Act as a team player (supporting and encouraging co-workers) and treat coworkers with respect.
  • Comply with Kreher Policies, Work Rules, and Code of Conduct, as well as federal and state laws (attendance, uniform, etc.).
  • Be familiar with the company's safety and health accident prevention program as described in the Health and Safety section of the employee handbook.
  • Regularly have a positive attitude, show good initiative, and have a great attendance record.
  • Participate in all required training during the first-day orientation process, and annually thereafter.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to avoid accidents.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Front End
  • Know how to properly complete packaging changeovers on packers for different packaging sizes and styles.
  • Be able to correctly identify and correct an error code on packers (Time is of the essence).
  • Ensure packing material matches egg size, carton dating, and lane assignment at end of lane computer.
  • Communicate with packer operators to correct any identified issues
  • Know how to scan packaging out of Ovotrack.
  • Provide very proficient egg packing and/or sanitation.
  • Do stickering tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Operate in the middle with effective communication.
  • Palletize if/when assigned (if able to meet physical demands for palletizing, as defined below).
  • Perform pre-operation safety checks on all machinery.
  • Communicate with the Set-up person on the correct orders to be run and their correct amounts.
Set up
  • Know how to set up the backline for the daily run.
  • Know what we are running and how many we need. Number each pallet consecutively, and mark the run number on the run sheet.
  • Make sure orders are counted out. Be sure some cases are taped off to signify the order is counted.
  • Ensure that all cased product is correctly stamped, labeled, dated, and closed.
  • If moving pallets ensure they are stacked straight and square, with stickers facing outward.
  • Check that daters and stickers are accurate.
  • Become proficient with the wrapper machine.
  • Help with cleaning in the packing plant, warehouse, or cooler during your shift.
  • Help with the machine and plant clean-up after the end of each shift.
  • Follow the Daily Run sheet to meet production orders

  • Ability to focus, and stay alert with very good observation skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Can work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to maintain the proper pace while handling a fragile product with little to no breakage.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of work experience, in a food processing plant is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to tolerate noise levels typical of a processing plant.
  • The constant physical demands of the position are standing and walking.
  • The constant physical demands of the position are carrying, pushing, pulling and lifting.
  • The constant physical demands of the position are talking and hearing.
  • Lift or move up to 25 pounds, or 50 pounds repeatedly, if palletizing.
