Compensation: $17.39/ Hr. to $18.70/Hr. ($36,171.20 to $38,896.00 /Annual)* * Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. Though this position is unclassified, pay is equivalent to classified Pay Grade 20, Steps 4-10.

Position Summary & Responsibilities Position Summary: To provide the juvenile residents housed at KJCC with exceptional recreational and leisure activities designed to facilitate positive behavioral changes and promote social skills.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: - Plans and carries out specialized educational, vocational, and athletic activities designed to facilitate positive behavioral changes and social skills. These include:
- Programs and classes for youth residents such as creative and fine arts, horticulture, music activities and a variety of sports activities.
- Intramural activities such as soccer, flag football, volleyball, and softball.
- Leisure-time activities and skills such as board games, card games etc.
- Activities for high-level youth residents, as well as activities specific for low functioning youth residents.
- Activities for special events, such as cookouts, yard parties and holiday events.
- Events for school breaks, and a schedule of activities on a seasonal basis.
- Mandatory large-muscle workout for youth residents.
- On-unit exercise programs for youth residents that cannot leave the unit or leave their rooms.
- Participate in Offender Advisory Council.
- Supervises youth resident workers in the Activity Department.
- Maintains daily youth medical restriction list.
- Demonstrates activities and encourages youth residents' participation.
- Serves as a role model for the youth, promotes physical well-being, health competition, sportsmanship, and development of healthy leisure skills.
- Assists youth residents in developing acceptable means to conflict resolution.
- Supervises youth residents by ensuring sight and sound supervision; completing mandatory and non-routine counts of youth residents; providing appropriate escort of youth residents, provides observation and follow-up of proper and improper conduct.
- Must recognize and report the behaviors in individuals that impeded program progress or threatens security.
- Submits information in written form regarding the youth resident's individual strengths, weaknesses, interests, and progress in activities, to the treatment team for ongoing program planning/progress reports as required, to reflect the youth resident's progress or problems in activities.
- Maintains information regarding youth residents' physical restrictions and face-sheets for reference.
- Maintains accurate record in youth residents' progress notes. Assists supervisor with purchase of equipment for activities.
- Assists with the distribution ad logging of equipment transactions in inventory log. Is responsible for maintenance of equipment used.
- Completes menus, pricing and purchasing items for special events, per State of Kansas, KDOC and KJCC purchasing requirements.
- Helps administer the canteen program for youth residents.
- For safety or youth residents and staff is accountable to follow policies/procedures regarding tool control for the department in order to stay current with KDOC. KJCC, PBS. May be asked to provide training to KJCC staff.
Qualifications - Minimum Qualifications : Four years' experience in recreation, athletics, music, or art. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
- Preferred Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree in Music, Art, Physical Education/Recreation, or sports field. Experience working with Juvenile youth residents, experience in the correctional field, and experience in the field of activities.
- Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must pass a criminal history records check, DCF Child Abuse and Neglect check, PREA check, TB skin test, UA Drug Test.
