Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties will be assigned)
- Administers all company rules, policies and procedures within the department and ensures that all employees are properly trained in the safe and efficient performance of assigned duties.
- Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
- Administers and oversees time clock and payroll information as well as performing annual and midyear performance evaluations on all Shipping/Receiving Department employees
- Schedules overtime to supplement requirements and expediting of critical needs in accordance with accepted overtime practices.
- Oversees module program for Shipping and Receiving Department employees including training and evaluation of staff.
- Maintains accurate inventory records and balances on finished goods inventory, conducting an effective an ongoing program of cycle counting and reconciliation.
- Monitors stock handling practices to ensure proper stock rotation and availability of inventory.
- Ensures timely Shipment Master (computer report) data entry function to provide current shipping status of orders and deduction of stock on shipped orders.
- Monitors all shipping schedules and customer requirement for Quick-Ship, Will-Call, International, Federal Express, UPS, truck and other orders for timely and accurate fulfillment of commitments.
- Supports the negotiation of all freight and transportation rates and agreements for Division.
- Coordinates with the Traffic Department the selection of eligible carriers for outbound and inbound shipments
- Works in coordination with Claims Department in filing and negotiation of freight claims and contested freight bills
- Oversees returned goods area for customer returns and defective merchandise.
- Oversees company driver and maintenance of company yard switcher.
- Responsible for accurate and timely completion of annual physical inventory of finished goods inventory for the warehouse
- Controls departmental expense spending within preapproved budgets, including monitoring budgeted accounts in both expenses and labor reclassification.
- Requisitions supplies and budgeted purchases in accordance with standard procedures.
- Prepares a variety of reports and charts for management and record personnel status reports as required.
- Oversees methods improvement program for the Shipping and Receiving departments, including facilitations of methods improvements teams and implementation and record keeping.
- Facilities department meetings on a daily and monthly basis, including preparation and presentation.
- Prepares and enters data for Division Monthly reporting. (On-time shipments, late shipments, shipping errors, cycle counts).
Qualifications
- BS or BA from an accredited college, or an associate's degree with apprenticeship and/or equivalent training.
- Familiarity with shipping, production equipment, and computer systems for data manipulation and word processing is beneficial.
- Directly supervises up to 12 employees in the Shipping department. The supervisor carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Minimum of two years' experience in shipping, receiving and warehousing with working knowledge of computer and automated inventory and storage systems.
- Demonstrated leadership skills are essential.
- Knowledge of safe operation of lift trucks and material handling devices.
