The minimum salary is $21.138 per hour

This position is eligible for overtime (non-exempt), if applicable.

Pay Grade 517

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain vehicle and pedestrian detection equipment, fiber optic cable, traffic signals, communication systems, traffic surveillance cameras, and all related equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in electronics and will gain valuable experience in the evolving field of Intelligent Transportation Systems. The position is part of a team of professionals who keep the traffic signals working optimally by maintaining the structural, hardware, and software components of the signal system.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

* Associate's degree, vocational technical degree, or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college education in electronics or related field

* Two (2) years of related experience

* Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience

* Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs cabling, traffic signal equipment, fiber optic communication equipment and traffic monitoring cameras

* Responds to traffic signal malfunctions during and after normal working hours and tests new and repaired equipment before installation

* Locates underground communication, signal cabling, conduit, and utilities

* Provides assistance to contractors and other agencies and inspects for quality assurance

* Operates aerial bucket and platform trucks

* Performs related work as assigned

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

* Flagger and Work Zone Safety within six (6) months of hire

* Minimum level 1 IMSA Signal Technician within twelve (12) months of hire

* Valid Driver's License

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

* All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16

* Subject to call back, on-call rotation, and overtime

* Must be able to operate Urban County Government equipment and vehicles in a safe, prudent and responsible manner
