The current vacancy is within the Adult Services (50+) Division.THE IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate for the current vacancy in the Adult Services (50+) program possesses the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:Recreation or leisure service work experience in either the public or private sector working directly with older adults.Ability to design, implement, and evaluate engage recreational programs tailored to the interest and abilities of seniors.Strong planning and organizational skills to manage multiple programs and schedules effectively.Can work cohesively in a team environment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with seniors, families, and staff.Demonstrated compassion and understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by seniors.Familiarity with safety protocols and health guidelines relevant to senior activities and events.Ability to work collaboratively with community organizations, families and other stakeholders to enhance program offerings.Ability to develop creative solutions and new activities that promote physical, mental, and social well-being of seniors.The City of Campbell, centrally located in the Santa Clara Valley, 50 miles south of San Francisco, and bordered by San Jose, Los Gatos, and Saratoga, was founded in 1846 by Benjamin Campbell. It was incorporated as a General Law City in 1952 and has a Council/Manager form of government. City departments, in addition to the City Manager's Office, include Police, Public Works, Community Development, Finance, and Recreation and Community Services. Campbell is a suburban community with a population of 42,754 and a balance of land uses - commercial, industrial, and quality housing - within its six square miles. Local schools are operated under the Campbell Union School District and the Campbell Union High School District - both well respected districts. Example of Duties Typical duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Plan, schedule, implement and evaluate a variety of division programs which may include special interest classes, recreation programs, special events, trips and excursions, holiday events, aquatics programs, Community Center rentals, field allocations, fitness activities, sports leagues Youth Commission and summer camps;
  • May recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate temporary part time and seasonal personnel;
  • Schedules use of facilities and assists with registration;
  • Works with other agencies and community groups to develop programs;
  • Develops public information and publicity material and other related informational materials;
  • Prepares written reports and maintains records;
  • May supervise use of departmental equipment and facilities; and
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in recreation/leisure services or closely related field, and equivalent of one year of full-time related experience in recreation/leisure services. Responsible experience related to the assigned program area is desirable. (Experience closely related to assigned program area may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years of the required education. A minimum of 60 semester units towards a recreation/leisure services or closely related degree would still be required.) Knowledge of:
  • Basic recreation programming principles;
  • Effective organizational and leadership techniques;
  • Good interpersonal and public relations skills.
Ability to:
  • Organize and conduct recreational activities;
  • Work with a variety of community groups and the general public;
  • Determine program needs and demands; speak and write effectively;
  • Work with a minimum of supervision;
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports.
Possession of:
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • License or Certificate: Proof of the following certification is required no later than the end of the six- month probationary period:
    • Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid
  • When assigned to the aquatics division proof of the following certification is required no later than the end of the six-month probationary period or six months after assignment: Certification in Red Cross Lifeguard
Special Requirements: Typical duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • General office environment, attend meetings at various sites within and away from the City, and have the availability to work off-hour shirts and events as required;
  • Sit and/or stand for long periods of time, repetitive keyboarding;
  • Reach, squat, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds;
  • Mobility to lead groups in activities;
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions;
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen hearing and speech to communicate in person and over telephone and/or computer.

  • Retirement: CalPERS - Formula dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS. Please see our for more information.
  • Health Insurance: Effective January 1, 2024, the monthly Cafeteria Plan Allowance will be based on selected level of coverage, as follows: Employee Only Coverage: $986.84; Employee Plus One Coverage: $1,973.68, Employee Plus Family: $2,565.78 to use towards a CalPERS medical plan or cash out opt: $750/month.
  • Vision/Dental Insurance: The City pays the monthly premium for employees and their eligible dependents through VSP and Delta Dental.
  • Deferred Compensation: City contributes $50 per pay period Mission Square Retirement 457 Plan available
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA): City will contribute $30.76 to a FSA which can be used for IRS eligible medical or dependent care expenses. Effective the first pay period in July 2023, the City will increase the FSA contribution by $25 per period for a total of $55.76 per period. Effective the first pay period in July 2024, the City will increase the FSA contribution by $25 per period for a total of $80.76 per period
  • VEBA Plan (Voluntary Employee Benefit Association): City contributes $69.24 per pay period
  • Vacation: Accruals are based on length of service. Employees can earn 11-21 days of vacation based on years of service.
  • Sick: Accrued at an unlimited rate of 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period.
  • Life Insurance: $50,000 + $50,000 AD&D Life Rate is .27 cents per $1,000: AD&D rate is .04 cents per $1,000
  • Long Term Disability Insurance: The plan provides for 2/3 of monthly base salary up to a salary maximum of $4,500 per month. The maximum benefit is $3,000 per month. Elimination Period is the first 30 days of each disability. City pays entire premium.
  • Holiday: Receive 10 paid holidays and 5 days of floating holiday.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: $3,000 per fiscal year
  • Bilingual Pay: $100/pay period if eligible.
