Job Description:Position Title: Mental Health Counselor (Bellarmine Campus Focused)Position Type: Full-time (35 hour/week), 10-month position, in-personDivision: Student LifeDepartment: Counseling & Psychological ServicesPosition Reports to: Director of Bellarmine Student WellbeingThe Fairfield- Bellarmine Campus mission is to provide a Jesuit and Catholic education that is accessible and affordable and empowers underrepresented students to realize their God-given potential and serve their communities.Position Description & SummaryThis position will focus on the development and provision of specialized mental health and wellness services for Fairfield University-Bellarmine students. The responsibilities of this position will include offering individual short-term counseling, group counseling, triage, crisis intervention, consultation, and referral focused primarily on supporting Fairfield-Bellarmine students. The individual in this role will be responsible for collaborating closely with Fairfield-Bellarmine in the development and implementation of psycho-educational programs and workshops tailored specifically to meet the needs of the Bellarmine students. This individual will be responsible for maintaining clear and timely clinical documentation, firm confidentiality practices, and will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.The individual in this role will serve as a consultant for staff and faculty, assisting in the management of students of concern, while offering training and consultation for campus partners who work closely with Bellarmine students. This individual will attend weekly C&PS staff meeting at the North Benson campus, weekly individual clinical supervision, as well as weekly meetings as designated by the Fairfield-Bellarmine team. Schedule and Work Conditions: In order to best serve the needs of Fairfield-Bellarmine Students, the counselor may need to be available certain evenings and weekends as necessary. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. On-call, after-hours work is required as needed by the department. This is a 10-month position with a return to work with-in the first week of August.Required QualificationsEDUCATION: Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for psychological counseling (social work, psychology, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) OR a Doctoral degree in Psychology or related mental health disciplineLICENSE: Candidate must be currently licensed (or license eligible) within the State of Connecticut.EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years of post-graduate clinical work experience in mental health counseling in a college and/or experience working with a young adult population is required. Demonstrated experience and skill in supporting students who identify as members of underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+. Experience utilizing short-term models of individual psychotherapy/counselingKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are required. Strong crisis-management and risk-assessment skills. Effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate with culturally, linguistically and ethnically diverse faculty, staff and students. Full competency of ethical standards is required, as the individual will be responsible for the management of confidential and sensitive student information.Experience in or appreciation for the mission of Jesuit higher education and the Bellarmine program.Commitment to care for underrepresented students and their familiesPREFERRED SKILLS: Bilingual language skills desirable (but not required)Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Provide individual and group counseling services. This involves:Providing culturally informed short-term counselingCoordinate case management, referral, and/or follow-up counseling with community-based resourcesMaintain strict confidentiality practices and practice sound ethical decision-makingMaintain timely, thorough, clinically sound documentation via EMRProvide triage and crisis-management servicesCollaborate with social supports, campus partners, and community-based providers as needed2. Develop and implement preventative psycho-educational programming and workshopInitiatives with a focus on serving the diverse needs of Fairfield-Bellarmine students, such as: substance use issues, interpersonal relationships, resilience, positive psychology, perfectionism, stress management, and diversity/ multicultural issues, etc.3. Offer workshops and timely support for Bellarmine students, faculty, and staff.4. Provides crisis intervention on an as needed basis; participate in on- call crisis management System.5. Serve on the Bellarmine Case Management Team, which helps supportive the holistic wellness of students, identifying / supporting student of concern, and reducing stigma associated with seeking out mental health services amongst students.6. Interacts with University community on a consistent basis, including Department of ResidenceLife, Campus Ministry, Dean of Students, Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, and Public Safety.7. Attend weekly clinical supervision, case conference meeting, and C&PS Staff meeting at the North Benson campus, in addition to mandatory Fairfield-Bellarmine Campus meetings.8. Performs other duties as related or dictated by responsibilities.
