GUTCHESS LUMBER CO., INC.INSPECTOR IN TRAINING JOB DESCRIPTIONREPORTS TO: AREA MANAGERPOSITION: HOURLY NON-EXEMPTDescription:As an Inspector in Training, you will embark on a structured program designed to develop your skills in assessing the quality and grading of lumber. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will learn to accurately identify wood species, detect defects, and apply industry grading standards to ensure that all products meet our stringent quality requirements.Overview: This role offers hands-on experience in the lumber industry and serves as a critical step towards becoming a fully qualified inspector. You will be trained in the use of specialized equipment, safety protocols, and the methodologies used in grading and inspecting lumber. Your ability to learn quickly, attention to detail, and commitment to quality will be key to your success in this role.Responsibilities: Assist senior inspectors in the grading and quality assessment of lumber. Learn and apply NHLA (National Hardwood Lumber Association) grading rules. Develop proficiency in identifying wood species and detecting defects. Conduct regular inspections to ensure lumber meets company and industry standards. Maintain accurate records of inspections and grading results. Collaborate with production teams to address quality issues and improve processes.Safety Must wear personal protective equipment, including: Safety glasses Hearing protection Head protection Steel toe work boots Any other protective gear as requiredSkills Required:Must be 18 years of age or older. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Willingness to cross-train in various positions, willing ness to learn, be self-motivated. Willingness to follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment. and work effectively as part of a team. Physical ability to handle lumber and perform inspections. Capable of lifting boards weighing between 25100 lbs. Ability to climb stairs, and perform frequent twisting, turning, and bending. Training: On-the-job training provided, with progression towards independent inspection responsibilities.
