Job Description & Requirements Specialty: First Assist Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: Ongoing Shift: nights Employment Type: Staff Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join the Labor and Delivery Unit. This role will be full-time night shift with 3x12 hour shifts one week and 2 x 12 hour shifts the next, totaling 5 x 12-hour shifts per pay period. –7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Weekend, On call, and Holidays scheduling requirements are assigned per unit. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible. Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Job Responsibilities: •Formulates individualized plans of care for patients with complex needs to achieve desired outcomes. Serves in a lead role in coordinating the care of patients and the team process. Delegates patient care activities to other healthcare team members and redirects unit activities as patient acuity and census change. •Collects and interprets complex assessment data while recognizing subtle changes in patients. Shares data with team and supports surgeons. •Makes clinical decisions based on experience and patient population data while promoting the development of clinical decision-making of all team members. Provides validation of clinical decisions for other staff members and seeks validation from others for complex patients or unfamiliar situations. •Advocates for patients' rights, provides counsel and acts as a resource to resolve issues. •Collaborates with the surgery team and other disciplines to meet desired patient outcomes. Communicates effectively and seeks out opportunities to improve communication among healthcare team members, patients and families. •Actively participates as a member of the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) team and committees. •May serve as charge nurse by coordinating staff/surgery schedules and handling daily issues with positive outcomes. •Serves as lead, role model, clinical resource and mentor to the team. Evaluates staff on practice delivery and recommends additional education if needed. Assesses learning needs and helps to facilitate appropriate training. Collaborates with team members in the development and implementation of education plans. May serve as preceptor. •Collaborates with the team in minimizing costs and controls waste with regard to supplies. Recommends revisions to standards or cost initiatives as needed. •Acts as a team lead or participant in the quality improvement process. Actively identifies areas and explores alternatives to care or practice. •Participates as lead or team member in CVOR or hospital committees. •Actively participates in preparing for the Joint Commission and state survey visits by being able to verbalize the quality improvement process and knowing applicable standards. •Identifies own learning needs and develops professional goals while seeking opportunities to obtain education to enhance practice. Demonstrates evidence of a minimum of 50 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 12 formal contact hours. •Performs other duties as assigned Additional Information: - Work schedule: Part-time, night shift with 2 x 12-hour shifts per week from 7:00pm to 7:00am | 16 hours of call in 6-week period |One major one minor holiday | 2 weekend shifts in a 6-week period - Education: -BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate's Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date. -Successful completion of an RFNA program that meets AORN recommended education standards for RN First Assistant programs. - Experience: 5 years of Perioperative Nursing practice as both a scrub and circulating nurse. In the case of less than five years of experience, three recommendations from practicing Surgeons and demonstrated clinical practice. 2 years of inpatient L&D experience - Certification: - Seeks CNFA - BLS from the American Heart Association - CNOR - ACLS from the American Heart Association - Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license Inova Job ID 652292.
