Job Location : Augusta,GA, USA
The purpose of this classification is to manage the operations and staff involved in providing special events and activities for Consolidated Government citizens.
* Manages, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
* Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work activities for special events: prioritizes work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex and problem situations and provide technical expertise; and provides progress and activity reports to Deputy Director.
* Develops, coordinates, and implements special events: creates, develops and schedules events; establishes, updates and maintains timelines; secures event site; designs event flow, crowd layout and control, etc.; creates event budgets; and manages and oversees approved budgets.
* Promotes Consolidated Government venues: builds relationships with potential clients and corporate sponsors; recruits concerts, festivals and other events; coordinates and develops proposals and plans itineraries for prospective industry representatives and corporate sponsors; conducts site tours; prepares and provides information materials; maintains communication and works closely with a variety of local, regional or national agencies, businesses and clients.
* Promotes the use of the Consolidated Government facilities and venues; schedules and coordinates private rentals; monitors event calendar, available space and dates, pending and signed contracts, and related activities; conducts facility tours; verifies agreements with clients; coordinates third party service contractors for lighting and sound, concessions, security etc.; ensures fulfillment of negotiated contracts; and provides onsite management, technical expertise, advice, and direction.
* Coordinates pre event activities; prepares and distributes documentation to departmental staff.; provides event information for publication; coordinates third party service contraction including preparing Requests for Proposal and Requests for Bid, negotiating contracts, etc.; attends meetings to ensure job responsibilities for event requirements are delegated; gathers and purchase supplies and prizes; obtains appropriate licenses and permits; ensures site appropriateness and readiness including safety, electrical, maintenance, rash, insect control, etc.
* Coordinates post-event activities; monitors tear down and clean up after events; conducts assessment and evaluation of events; prepare report of assessment to summarize outcome of events; develops recommendations for improvements and modifications.
* Manages, maintains, publishes and distributes a monthly and yearly calendar for events and activities: enters and updates event information on department website; and responds to questions and requests for information.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations or a related field
Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in event planning or venue management, to include lead or supervisory experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of management and supervision, recreation administration, program development and implementation.
* Familiarity of laws, ordinances, county and departmental policies and procedures, budgetary processes and procedures, programs, activities and facilities.
* Proficient in planning and coordinating large groups, supplies, volunteers, maintenance, public relations, and use of the media.
* Mastery of basic accounting and mathematics and operating modern office equipment.
* Good communication skills, both oral and written.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and to supervise others.
Licensing/Certification:
* Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
* Must obtain and possess CPR and AED certifications

* Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
* Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
* Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.
