Server Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this job position is to be responsible for creating an enjoyable dining experience for residents and their guests in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and to assure that quality service is provided at all times.

Essential Functions:

The following essential functions are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as

exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

General Duties

Support the mission, vision, and goals of the organization, upholding and promoting company culture and vision.

Maintain proper table settings, and placement of flatware, glasses, napkins, condiment dishes, and vases. Ensure salt and pepper shakers and sugar holders are filled and clean. Keep table linens clean and properly placed on tables.

Serve Residents promptly, courteously, and in an orderly manner. Serve from left, pour beverages and clear from right. Remove empty dishes before serving the next course.

After meal service, take all remaining dishes on the tables to the kitchen. Clean tables and chairs. Reset tables for the next meal.

Prepare for and work special functions.

Demonstrate positive Resident relations and community quality care and service standards to Residents, families, and guests. Maintain a positive, cheerful attitude at all times.

Follow sanitation and safe food handling guidelines.

Use the Point-of-Sale system accurately with minimal errors.

Obtain and demonstrate knowledge of the Discover Your Spark Lifestyle and Wellness philosophy and its inherent core values.

Support and participate in Discover Your Spark (e.g. assist with feedback groups, assist in new initiatives, encourage Residents, and act as champions of fun).

Follows rules concerning personal appearance and work performance.

Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures and assists with evacuation of residents to a safer location in the event of a fire or other emergency.

Safety and Sanitation:

Understand and follow safety and infection control policies and procedures.

Follow established procedures in the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.

Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., gait belt, back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving residents, as applicable to your position.

Keep floors dry. Report spills immediately.

Report all hazardous conditions and equipment problems to the supervisor immediately.

Assist housekeeping in maintaining offices and common areas ensuring rooms are safe, comfortable, attractive, and orderly.

Training:

Attends in-service and staff meetings and education programs.

Continue to develop job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in continuing educational opportunities for personal growth and development.

Resident Rights:

Promotes and protects residents rights, assists residents in making informed decisions, treats residents with dignity and respect, and supports residents independent expression, choice, and decision-making consistent with all pertinent laws regarding residents rights. Reports suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with applicable lawsand regulations.

Other:

Perform other related duties as assigned

Desired Skills and Experience:

Ability to work with the elderly in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion.

Ability to perform duties with consideration for Residents rights at all times and demonstrate integrity and discretion in the care of Residents and in handling their health information.

Ability to safely handle food in accordance with community policies and procedures, as well as all state and federal regulations.

Required Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

Food Handler certificate preferred to Serve Safe alcohol certificate preferred.

At least 1 year of related work experience

Must be at least 16 years old

Qualifications:

While performing the duties of this Job, the Associate is regularly required to on a daily basis, throughout the workday: Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, turning, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling, reaching over the head, grasping with both hands and fine manipulation. Must physically be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and exert up to 50 pounds of pressure unassisted. Must have normal eyesight or use corrective lenses. Must have three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to recognize colors. Must be able to hear and distinguish between normal tones and be able to perceive the nature of sounds. Must be able to exchange ideas by means of the spoken word as well as engage in activities to convey detailed or spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, and/or quickly. Must have a normal sense of touch and smell.

Language Ability:

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills utilizing the English language.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence via print and email.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Cognitive Demands:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Ability to use Microsoft Office Programs.

Ability to use the Internet and online-based databases.

Environmental Adaptability:

Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled setting.

Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, odors, water, etc., as well as noise, heights, and confined spaces. When outside, must be able to tolerate exposure to weather, fluctuations in temperature (hot, cold), wet and/or humid conditions.

Associates may be exposed to blood and/or body fluids with potential exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.

Possible exposure to unpleasant odors.

Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MDS Manual.

Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational

Must be willing to work, when necessary, beyond normal working hours and on weekends, as well as in other positions as necessary
