Duties

* Initiate the crash rescue alert net in the event notification of a crash is received either by radio or telephonically.

* Post and maintain flight publications used for flight planning purposes to ensure that such publications are current.

* Use automated systems to originate, transmit, file and maintain Notices to Air Mission (NOTAMS) with respect to the operation of the facility.

* Conduct briefings to communicate information required by aviators, including status of navigational aids, weather alerts and advisories, airfield/runway closures, construction hazards, closed areas, etc.

* Provide pilot-to-dispatch advisory service through UHF, and VHF radios.

* Evaluate existing and forecast weather conditions that could damage aircraft or threaten aircraft operations and/or airfield infrastructure.

* Transmit all Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flights via Aeronautical Information System Replacement (AISR) computer or a similar system to appropriate Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC).

* Inspect airfield daily, or more often as required, to ensure a safe airfield environment.

* Assist in the research and evaluation of airfield data in reference to facilities, construction plans, policies, and aviation operations for inconsistencies and potential airfield impacts.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience is defined as:One year of specialized experience which includes: Knowledge of and skill in operating within the National Airspace System. Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in work such as: Civilian or military aircraft operations work, such as flight instructor, instrument rated pilot, flight engineer, or air transport pilot; FAA certified dispatcher for an air carrier; Flight information expediter involved in determining flight times of airplanes and transmitting information to flight operations and command centers; Civilian or military air traffic controller; Flight data processor. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
