Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Food Service Director, and Clinical Dietitian, the Dietetic Technician screens patients for nutritional status, guides patients in food selection, provides basic dietary counseling and carries out menu planning based upon their nutritional needs and established medical nutritional therapy guidelines. Makes accurate and appropriate documentation on patient screening/diet information and forwards on to Dietitians. Assists in the implementation of the diet and monitors patients to ensure patients receive the diet as ordered.
Assists in the development, evaluation and revision of the patient Nutrition Care Plan along the patient care continuum, correcting patient menus as needed. Assists with staff training, attends dietary/food service related meetings and provides assistance with special department projects, as directed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
* Must be a currently Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration or have a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or related health care field required.
Knowledge:
* Prefer two years experience as a Dietetic Technician, Nutrition Assistant or Dietary Aide in an acute care setting.
* Thorough understanding and knowledge of patient nutritional assessment and modified diets required.
Skills:
* Excellent public relations, interpersonal, communication, listening and teaching skills required.
* Ability to relate to patients, visitors and staff; ability to use Windows based computer programs; basic medical terminology and skilled in obtaining information from patient medical record.
* Ability to organize time effectively.
