Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, perform apprentice level work in the installation, repair, remodel, and maintenance of buildings as related to the building and construction trade. Works in cooperation and assists other trades in the Facilities Department as needed.
Qualifications:
* High School graduate or equivalent desired
* Minimum of 1-year experience in the Building Trade
* Must have basic knowledge of hand and power tools of the trade
* Professional attitude always and present a helpful attitude to others
* Must maintain confidentiality on department procedures and operations
* Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions, including the use of power tools and equipment consistent with the Carpentry trade
* Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer's manuals
* Punctual, dependable, honest and of good moral character
* Must be responsible and trustworthy
* Self-starter, high initiative and require little supervision
* Neat, clean cut and present a professional appearance
* Excellent communication skills and maintain good interpersonal relationships
* Must have valid Texas Driver's License and maintain a good driving record
* Pursue professional growth activities to continue development in the Carpentry trade
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Maintain, repair, construct and install Building and related systems and components
* Conform to industry and shop standards of safety. Promptly report accidents on the job and prepare/submit accident reports to the supervisor
* Report facility discrepancies and problems as needed for repair in a timely manner
* Install and repair all aspects of building construction components relative to the building construction and carpentry trade
* Coordinate as needed with campuses to assure maintenance work does not interfere with school activities or schedules
* Respond to emergency callouts after hours as required. Follow up with supervisor or maintenance coordinator on work done
* Assist shop supervisor, lead, and technicians in coordinating work to be done by outside vendors/contractors. Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes.
* Always keep all equipment and tools clean and in good condition for use
* Keep all work areas clean. Thorough clean up should be done at the end of all completed work and/or at the end of each workday
* Process completed paperwork, work orders and reports as needed
* Communicate effectively to eliminate any problems, surprises, or misunderstandings
* Report vandalism and/or emergency problems immediately to Directors/Supervisors and appropriate Administrative personnel
* Conform to the District's and Facilities department policies and procedures
* All other duties as assigned in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation. Work could include working with other shops and trades as needed
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Work with frequent interruptions
* Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of time
* Assembling and moving ladders, scaffolding, trailers, compressors, etc.
* Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds
* May be required to wear a respirator and pass appropriate pulmonary physical
* Exposure to noise and communicable diseases
* Extreme cold/heat
* Exposure to wet and humid conditions
* Work in confined spaces
* Exposure to legal limits of pesticides and herbicides
* Exposure to odors and gases
* Tolerate exposure to grasses and other outside environments+
