Summary

Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Performs and assists with nuclear medicine studies in hospital and at our outreachhospitals. Is responsible for patient safety protocols. Maintains all federal, state, local and regulatory agency requirements. Participates in CQI activities.

  • Prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals per department protocols and policy.
  • Performs daily QC per department protocols and policy.
  • Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination, and accurate documentation.
  • Uses scanners or scintillation cameras for detection of radiation emitted to produce image of organ.
  • Performs daily area surveys and weekly wipe tests.
  • Measures radioactivity using a survey meter.
  • Follows radiation safety techniques and policies in the use and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, from pediatric through geriatric.
  • Instructs and prepares patient for imaging examinations.
  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing imaging exams.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
  • Provides radiation protection following the ALARA principles.
  • Takes call after regular department hours according to employee schedule.
  • Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
  • Completes all work before clocking out and leaving
  • Understands and practices proper use of all equipment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the department manager.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • High school graduate; bachelor's degree required.
  • One year experience preferred as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Graduation from approved school of Radiology Sciences with certification in nuclear medicine.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT), and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Obtain license from the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts as Radiologic Technologist within 8 months of hire, if applicable for outreach services.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty (ies) as appropriate.
  • Must obtain valid driver's licsense, insurance, and able to operate a motor vehicle.
