Patton College of Education - Child Development Center at Ohio University invites applicants for openings for Assistant Professors of Instruction positions as teachers at the Child Development Center. Candidates should have experience teaching children ages birth to 5 years old, as well as preferred experience working with teacher candidates (undergraduate students). We are looking for several candidates that will contribute to these goals, bring a strong commitment to teaching, and will work with colleagues within the College and Child Development Center to improve education.The Assistant Professor of Instruction is a Teacher in a classroom at the Child Development Center. They have responsibility of the classroom, coordinating activities and planning alongside a co-teacher, and mentoring Teacher Candidates.Responsibilities:•Teach and supervise young children from diverse backgrounds through planning, implementing, and reflecting on daily experiences alongside teaching team•Interact with everyone with kindness, warmth, and an assets based perspective•Use observational assessments, knowledge of child development, creativity, reflection, weekly classroom planning meetings and family input to develop emergent curriculum in the classroom•Provide a safe, clean, organized, warm, stimulating classroom environment•Assist children working through developmental skills and build classroom community•Use Brigance screen two times each year with each child•Follow the State of Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards•Follow all ODJFS licensing rules, maintain attendance, tracking sheets, child portfolios, and classroom NAEYC portfolio•Create Experience Journals and Documentation to make children's learning visible using digital and paper formats•Able to work with small groups and individual children while supervising the whole group.•Able to prioritize and make appropriate quick decisions•Develop strong relationships with families, encourage frequent/daily communication, meet with families at least twice a year and submit written conference reports•Supervise, support, and assess sophomore Teacher Candidates with diverse backgrounds in the classroom daily•Participate in the Center community, staff meetings and professional development days•Attend and participate in Reggio Study Group Meetings, is a continual learner, and shares own learning or that of the children with othersReflective and able to recognize one's successes and areas for growthMinimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field, must have degree in hand at time of appointment;Experience working with and supervising young children;Successful completion of FBI and BCI background checks and medical exam.Preferred Qualifications Experience supervising Teacher Candidates;Experience with Reggio Emilia Philosophy.Department Child Development Center Pay RateJob Open Date 12/04/2024 Posting Close Date December 3, 2025Employment Type full-time term Job Category Instructional and Clinical Faculty Months 12 month Planning Unit Patton College of Education Work Schedule M - F 8 hour days, varies 7:30 - 3:30 or 9:30 - 5:30Campus Athens Applicants may contact this person if they have questions about this position.
