We have multiple openings for the roles of Advising Associate and Advising Associate - Athletics who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide guidance to students in their educational and career pathway. Qualifications EDUCATION:Advising Associate and Advising Assoicate - Athletics Required: Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education or another related field. Advising Associate Preferred: Master's Degree in (Education) Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education or another related field.Advising Associate - Athletics Preferred: Master's Degree in (Education) Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education or another Sports related field.EXPERIENCE:Required: Three (3) years of experience working in a secondary education classroom setting, adult student interaction, counseling, or case management. Advising Associate Preferred: Experience in a public-school setting and/or academic advising in secondary or higher education.Advising Associate - Athletics - Preferred: Experience working in a public high school setting, higher education advising/support services, or another sport related field. Job Duties & Responsibilities Advising Associate:
- Advise students regarding degree requirements, career options, employment possibilities, and transfer issues. Work with department chair to increase completion, graduation, and transfer.
- Evaluate individual education plans and degree plans as required by state stature for students.
- Assist students in the registration process utilizing Amarillo College (AC) institutional software, and work retention alert items for students to enhance student completion and successful transfer.
- Participate in activities to recruit and retain students.
- Participate in cross-training activities within the department or as directed by the Director of Advising.
- Support the continued implementation of the AC Advising Model, in keeping with the Amarillo College mission of Student Success.
- Provide timely and accurate communication to Advising Director and department chair regarding registration and transfer efforts.
- Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Advising Associate - Athletics:
- Advise and maintain a case load of student-athletes and non-athletes regarding degree requirements, career options, employment possibilities, and transfer issues.
- Gaining knowledge of various academic programs across the college to better serve all students as a generalist advisor.
- Track and monitor the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure they meet institutional, conference, and NJCAA eligibility requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NJCAA and institutional rules and regulations to ensure compliance, and advise student-athletes accordingly.
- Prepare regular reports on student-athlete academic performance and eligibility status, and communicate any concerns to the appropriate parties.
- Work with the director/associate director of advising, other academic advisors, department chairs, coaches, faculty, and other services to ensure a comprehensive approach to the student experience and enhance retention, graduation, and transfer.
- Evaluate individual education plans and degree plans as required by state stature for students.
- Develop and deliver workshops on time management, study skills, and other relevant topics to support student-athletes in balancing their academic and athletic responsibilities.
- Assist student-athletes and non-athletes in the registration process utilizing AC institutional software, and work retention alert items for students to enhance student completion and successful transfer.
- Participate in athletic activities to recruit, retain, and support students.
- Participate in cross-training activities within the department or as directed by the Director/Associate Director of Advising.
- Support the continued implementation of the AC Advising Model, in keeping with the Amarillo College mission of Student Success.
- Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position. Pay grade 11 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons). Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed. Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary). Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, Business Objects, and various other educational applications.)
